Ok !! I recieved my Otter Yesterday evening and this morning , decided to put it up in my living room…

    Piece of Cake !!

First of all I set up all the parts on the floor and checked out the directions for the parts list..There all there !!!

first the directions tell me to use the supplied template to drill the holes for the support bracket, but this year there are pre-marked holes that worked out perfect !!

Drill the holes with the drill bit…..

And your ready to mount the support bracket

With a 7/16 open end wrench and a socket/wrench, just bolt her down tight..

Next assemble the square tubing per instructions

making sure to spray a little WD-40 in the tubing and work them back and forth,,

Then once the framing is together lay the frames one by one into the support bracket starting with the back one first using the lock nuts, bolts and nylon washers,

working your way up to the front framing. (note…all frames are the same , so it doesn’t matter which one you start with)

and then attach the support brackets per the instructions and you should have something like this set up in youe living room

Next i purchased the Otter Bench Seat, and before the cover goes on this should be assembled.I chose the Otter bench because it allows me to sit anywhere in my Otter that I like. It makes it much easier not having to work around the cover.Attach the support frame brackets with the support frames in this position

Then once you have the supports in place put the seat in on the sled, with the U shaped part in the front of the sled , centering it in the middle of the sled and adjusting the seat forward or more towards the rear to your liking, and tighten the brackets on the bottom side of the bench.

The back side of the bench mounts to two brackets that allow the bench to flip up and down for access to the inside of the sled.Once your bench is centered slip the rear mounting bracket in position , mark and drill the holes according to the directions.

measure out the other bracket and drill those holes and bolt the brackets into place

Then install the pins that the bench seat hinges on and that is all done..

Ok…now with the bench seat in position and the frames up

pull the cover over the top of the frames.

straighten the cover so you can get inside and attach all the velcro pieces to the frame

Next start from the left front corner and start attaching the cover to the sled. This year Otter has sewn the plactic piece that attaches to the sled right into the cover ,so no need to screw the two together..Way Nice !! Start from the left front and work your way around the sled.

then continue this right into the inside of the sled for a complete enclosure.

Next I purchased Otters Rod Holders. These are also very easy to install and are a very smart rod holder…

With a philips screw driver and a 7/16 open end attach the holders bracket.

And with the jointed arm and the thumb screw that holds the arm in place you can direct the rod holder in any position.

And with the very durable vinal cover to keep your Otter from the elements in transport your ready to go !!

    Flipped over for complete coverage

or flipped up for a wind break

This is the perfect sled for an on the go ice fisherman. The assembly took me right around 2 hours and thats including taking all the pictures..Easy and Pie !!

Go to Otter Outdoors and check out all the fine products they have available.

Pretty neat there Mister, except for one minor detail-the color purple is missing!

    Geez Koonce,

We are going to look like a couple of twins out on the ice!

I got the Green Otter Den also, plus we both have the same color Cabela’s Guidewear.

I’m setting my Otter up tonight. I purchased a different seat set up plus the Hyfax runner kit. I’ll post a couple of additional pix later. Otters – custom build ’em to your likeing!!

    Big Boys n’ their TOYS!

That’s a pretty slick looking shack. Got room under there for me during the Get together or am I “out in the cold?”

Finally had the time to work on the Otter. Here are the pictures of the Hyfax Runners and the Cushioned Swivel Seat.

The first picture here shows the pre-drilled runners being installed. The runners fit onto the molded sled runners for extra reinforcement. Saves a lot of wear on the sled, especially if you tow it alot like I’ll do on Mille Lacs. I just lined up the Hyfax runners and drilled through the Otter sled and screwed them on with the hardware provided.

Here is a shot of the completed job. Took about an hour to install the Hyfax runners.

Here is the seat base and swivel seat assembly. (Showing the underside. Note heavy duty aluminum and welded construction) Four screws attach the seat to the base support and it’s ready to drop on the sled. Very comfortable and a lot of lower back support.

One thing I did during assembly was Duct Tape the corner connections. (The Red Green came out in me ) My thinking was I will never take them apart and the tape should seal out any water that may get trapped in there.

Very nifty Jon. It looks like the seat will slide to any position on the sled, right? Also, I know Minn. requires the reflectors, is there any certain color required?

Yes, the seat can slide to any position on the sled. Did I mention it swivels too?

I have not read anything in the regs about any color requirements for reflectors.
