Suzuki DT150 not starting

This is an ’03 outboard, and until now has performed great.
The outboard turns over, and sounds like it wants to go, but it just doesn’t fire up.
I changed the plugs 2 weeks ago, put a can of Seaform in the tank to start the season, and made sure the battery was good (its only a year old). It ran great until this past Sat, when it started, coughed, then stopped. I couldn’t get it to start again. Does anyone have experience with this engine? Any suggestions for easy fixes before I take it in? Thanks!

Not to sound dumb but did you double check the kill switch and shift lever fully in nuetral?

Check the filters? (double check for) Fouled out plug? bad gas or mixture? low fuel pressure? gummed up carb or jets? double check all internal engine wiring? getting spark?

Could be any one of these

Yep, kill switch is good (been there, done that ), and its fully in neutral. I checked the internal wiring and everything seems in place. Seems to be lack of gas pressure, the ball simply doesn’t tighten up. I pretty much ran the tank dry last fall, then added fresh gas before winterizing, so I don’t think bad gas is the issue. Not sure about the spark, but then I’m not really sure how to check for that.

I have that exact boat/motor combo. I had to rebuild the 2 low pressure fuel pumps behind the oil tank. The kits have a circle rubber diaphragm that gets eaten/stiffens from the gas. The pumps fill a small tank that the high pressure fuel pump pulls mixed fuel from. The kits are under $20 and takes about an hour to do both. I’d try that before I took it in.

If you do take it in I recommend Maplewood Marine. They are very good Suzuki wrenches.

Thanks for the replies. Ended up taking it in. Maplewood was a week out just to look at it, so took it to Dan’s. Got a call back saying the stater coil was bad. Never heard of that before, but the bill will be huge and the boat will be idle for at least a week until the part comes in.

Sorry to hear about Maplewood. A week out is terrible. Didnt think they could be that busy. Those old guys been selling Suzuki before Suzuki was cool. Long time. They did a complete rebuild on my 115 two years ago and it runs perfect.
