Just wondering what you guys think might be the advantages or disadvantages for both motors. It will go on a Lund 1725 ProGuide. Thanks in advance!

As far as performance they are pretty close. Hole shot goes to e tech. top speed, yamaha by just a hair. Gas millage is to close to call. Yamaha is quieter. weight is etech by 40#s. Reliability is hands down yamaha. If you buy etech make sure it is from a good dealer that knows how to work on it.
Its Yamaha for me. That VTS button on the Yamaha is a great feature.
May 22, 2009 at 12:50 pm #413277I was in the same dilema last year, I choose to go with the yammie. What led me to the yamaha was the factory tiller handle, basically everything is at your finger tips(tilt, trim VTS) and the best handle on the market at no additional cost. The power on the 75 yammie is awesome, in fact the yammie ran 7 mph faster than my 4 stroke Honda. Another factor that changed my mind was my dealer, they sold yamaha, evinrude, suzuki, and merc. I was simply told that the yammie has given them very little problems and the E-tech seemed to still be having some issues. In my walleye club and several of my friends that run the E-Tech seem to have problems from blowing them up to power trim and tilt failing, cold blooded in the winter, oil sensors, needing computer updates and dead starter batteries. Just my 2 cents, I am sure you will be happy with any motor
May 22, 2009 at 1:27 pm #442550It seems like everyone I talk to has an opinion about motors and I’d have to say I’ve heard of quite a few issues with the E-Tec’s and very very few issues with a Yamaha. Etec does have a great infomercial though
May 22, 2009 at 1:57 pm #251171Another vote for the Yamaha. I sure love my 75 with the VTS. I would not have a tiller without it. I did hear Yamaha was working on putting the VTS on the 115, sure would make that Skeeter 2000t a sweet rig.
May 22, 2009 at 3:24 pm #426655Started with the 90 E-Tech 5 years ago, upgraded boat & motor to the 115 2 years ago and have had no issues or problems. Lighter weight, quiet and no issues. I love my E-Tech and recommend it to anyone who asks.
May 22, 2009 at 6:40 pm #675370I’d strongly suggest you select the brand that your dealer is interested in supporting. Every brand made has issues, afterall they are made by humans who happen to be prone to errors. I happen to like 2 strokes as I don’t like the lack of hole shot that 4 strokes tend to provide. But again the most important part of purchasing ANY marine item whether it’s boat, motor or accessories is a highly reliable dealer. Warranties are only as good as the dealer…. Good luck with your purchase and no matter what you choose I hope it brings you hours of enjoyment. Kurt
May 22, 2009 at 6:41 pm #321291Got Yamaha 75 on my 17 pro Angler. Wont catch me with anything else!
May 22, 2009 at 7:14 pm #321762I think it depends what your fishing style is. Do you jump spot to spot wide open and then shut off the main engine? then I think the E-tec would be a good choice. Do you troll or Idle alot? then the yammie would be a better choice. weigh your options and keep asking questions before you buy so you arent dissapointed.
May 22, 2009 at 9:43 pm #269789Own a 2008 yami 75 and love it, only thing I noticed in cold weather it takes a bit to start peeing. Standard from the peeps I spoke to with same motor. The pee hole will ice up slightly, probably gonna happen to any motor in 20 degree weather…. love the VTS, can back troll at .8mph and forward 1.8-2 on the lowest setting. Good luck on your choice
