I posted this on another board, and thought that I would post it here, since it still hasnt been resolved.:

Earlier this spring, I had a problem with my F115 that hasnt been able to be resolved to date, and would like to know what some of your ideas are as to what it could be.

I fish alot of winter and early spring reservoirs. ( I think I have about 120 hours on my motor for 09 already.

Anyway, Back in late march, I was running back to the ramp and a warning buzzer came on at my tach, which also has an oil pressure and a water temp signal lite, neither of which was showing any indications of a problem. The motor went into limp mode and I limped on in to the ramp.

It baffled me that neither warning lite indicated what the problem was, but I assumed that it was the water pump, because of all the times I had started the motor on the trailer ( just a few seconds) after getting done fishing to clear the unit of any water that may freeze in the unit. I had planned on changing the water pump anyway, just for maintainance, as the motor had 260 hours on it at the time.

I took it to the local dealer, who has a tremedous mechanic, They ran a scan with the computer, and it showed no codes or faults.

I had the oil , gear lube and water pump changed, since it was already in the shop.

Next day out, same thing, running down the lake, and the warning lite started “chirping” and then turned into a full blown buzzer and the motor went into limp mode, (no lites on the guages lit up) so I headed back to the ramp and back to the mechanic. He hooked it up to the computer, and it showed nothing thru all the menus. We then put it on the water and ran it for 15 minutes with the computer hooked up, looking for something. Everything checked out good and I used it the rest of the day with no problems.

This last weekend, I put the boat on the water, and the same thing happened. IT seemed to happen consitently when the motor was cold, but not until I was a mile or so from the ramp. If I trolled with it for an hour or so, then I could run, but from a cold start, it would kick it back into limp mode a mileor two downstream. Never has either of the lights in the guage turned on, with the exception of when I start it, so Im pretty sure they are working.

Anybody have any ideas what to look for , if the computer doesnt say anything is wrong and how can it go into “limp mode” without throwing a code to the computer?

It is to bad they dont have a temp gauge, is it possible it is not warming up or staying at the proper operating temp? Maybe try and replace the T Stat, that should be fairly inexspencive

Depending on the year, you might look at putting in a thermostat and plugs from an F90. Yammi has a service bulletin out re:oil problems and claim this makes the motor run a bit hotter than the stock parts. I never run my old guy hard till it’s had at least a 10-15 minute warm-up. Normally I start it on the unload and let it idle while I park and get all my electronics going. After that I idle out a ways before giving it the gas. Just my .02 jerr

After fighting this gremlin for 6 weeks, we changed out the ECM on Thursday and it has worked flawlessly since.

Havent gotten the bill yet. Any ideas what an ECM costs?
