1700 Lund Explorer On Board charger mounting

Anyone ever mount an on board charger in the battery compartment of a 1700 explorer? Just wondering if there is enough room on the port or aft side without worrying about the fuel fill line or the fuel tank. I called Lund and was told to take the fuel tank access cover off in the floor to check for clearance. I’d like to avoid that extra work if I can.

    Thanks for your help.

I have an 1800 that the dealer mounted the charger in the front right storage compartment… Wires run around or beneath the livewell to get to the in-floor battery compartment. Not sure how you might run that wiring, but thats how mine was setup, anyway.

Sorry, not much help I guess. Best of luck though!

I used to have an 1800 Explorer as well. I wired mine so it sat in the starboard side rod locker all the way to the rear of the boat. It was a nice clean installation and relatively out of the way, yet accessible for plugging it in. Good luck.

In looking at my brother in-laws 1800, I think the compartment on the 1700 is larger. At lease the access door is. There is plenty of room in there with the two batteries for a charger. It is just a matter of knowing whats behind the sides. Guess I’ll have to take the fuel tank cover off to be sure. Thanks for all the help.

I have a 1700 Explorer and have the charger mounted right inside the compartment with the trolling batteries. Doing this I used the extension cable to reach back to the starting battery. It fits nice and neat in the compartment and is out of the way.

Mine’s an ’06. Does this help? I did pull the floor panel over the tank, and used bolts with nylock nuts.

Thanks for all the help. I going to put it in this weekend before hitting the water.
