I have a problem with one of my livewell pumps. It runs constantly, even with the switch off. The only way is stops is when I turn the master power switch off. I bought a new switch, and still no luck getting it to turn off. I even tried it without the switch wired in and it still ran!! I don’t know how that could be…wouldn’t that make it an open circuit without the switch wired in? I’m at a total loss….any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You’re right, if you take the switch out then you’d have an open circuit and there won’t be any power going to the pump. Any chance you’re working on the wrong switch?

Your pump is getting 12v from somewhere. It maybe shorted in side the pump or the power wire is shorted to another wire with 12v on it. If it is a auto run pump it is tied to the battery and the switch only turns it on manually.

I would have to say to start by tracing your wires from begining to end. It sounds like you have a couple bare wires somewhere or maybe even the pump is hot wired. I live in litchfield if you want you can PM me since I am in st cloud area often

Thanks a lot everyone, I will try to follow the wires as much as I can and see what happens.

Dumb question but do you only have one livewell switch? Both my live wells have three one on the console and one up front and one in the rear.

Good suggestion Tom P. If the switch is disconnected, there should not be power ??? I would check for another switch Good advice

Yep – I’m no electrical engineer, but I did learn that if you want your pump to stop running, it a good idea to turn off the switch on the bow….

Thanks again for all the responses…I need a beer!!!

    Good call Tom P.

My dog was always turning that front switch on. So to disable it (temporarily) I just took a wire tie and wrapped it around the switch. Keeps it in the off position. This was a rocker switch where off was center. Push top for constant on and bottom for timer.
