I have an old school 14′ Lund and need to get a trolling motor? I would like to get a 55 lb. thrust, but I have an option of getting a super deal on a 37 lb., I believe? Will that be enough power on the river w/ this boat?

    Yes, to go down stream.

    Get the 55, minimum.

    Funny. And to the point.

37# isn’t going to cut it on moving water or if there’s any wind to add to the mix. Bite the bullet and get that 55# and never look back.

Yep…especially when dealing with current…get all the footlbs you possibly can…wish I had a 101!

I have a 16′ Lowe flat with the 55. With two in the boat it is really not enough early river fishing. If I remember right when you go from 55 and up the cost goes nuts. However to change now it would cost me the original investment plus the new one so buy as much power that you can afford.

The Super Deal will not be worth it the first time you need the extra power to present your bait properly. You will regret not getting the largest trolling motor you can afford. I got a Super Deal on a 55 and wish I had the real deal on an 80 or 101.

    I’m curious about this.

Is that boat just a little tin boat? Don’t 55# motors take 24 volts? I can’t imagine throwing an extra 100# in my little boat, it seems like it would be way to much.

55lb thrust is the biggest you can git in a 12 volt system. 80lb thrust is the biggest you can git in a 24 volt system any bigger then 80lb thrust tacks a 36 volt system.
One thing I would rely consider about buying a trolling motor is what boat do you have know and what kind of boat would you get if you upgrade. Buy a big one so you don’t have to buy another one.

Max it out, if powering with one 12V do the 55#, you will love it. Not having a powerful enough trolling motor is extremely frustrating. I run a 101 now and love it.

p.s. Old school 14ft lunds rock, grew up fishing in one of those. Great boat.

Get the biggest you can afford then you won’t wish you had bigger when the 37Lb thrust one is to small. Especially in the current and weeds 37 lbs is not big enough.
