I stopped at a garage sale yesterday and found a box which appears to have some old handmade lures. Anyone have any information on these lures or seen anything like them before? They appear to be made from some sort of plastic with a wire band integrated into them. The swivel ends show ageing. Well if they are not old i’m only out $1.00. Thanks

Have you checked around on ebay? I sold some old South Bend tackle on ebay last year that were new in the box. They sold from $40 – $125.

I really doubt that you’ll find those lures on E-bay as they may be one-of-a kind items. In the 30’s,40’s and 50’s there were numbers people that made and sold lures on a local basis and those lures never made wide area sales. You should take them to sports shows that have expert lure collectors to find out more about them. I’ve collected quite a few different kinds of lures but have never seen anything like them. They are very interesting.

Thanks for the reply’s. I first thought they may have been some kind of “shrinky dink” type of plastic things. After further examining them I discovered they are made with the wire wrapped through them. Interesting and unique.I will take your advice and try a show whenever one comes to my area. Thanks again.

Is there any type of name that you might use for a Google search?

The only name is on the inside of the box lid. I don’t even know if these are the right lures for the box. I am assuming they are because there are so many of them. The box lid says “Pearl City Stream Tested Lures F.F. Minni Flourescent– Flamefilm. Us Patent No. 2,319,222”.

I see a couple pics with what may be an early style of Angel Eye spoon. The ones made of shell are not as uncommon as one would think, but not likely to be a production lure.

I got out the reference book I use in our antique shop and the only place that showed much similar to what your pics show are the in the “unique” section….meaning most likely one-of-a-kind. Some of those shown in the reference book can run up to 15-20 dollars, but the represented items are in pristine condition.

Still, what you have is interesting stuff. While I don’t do any appraising, there are those that do. Don’t get too far out of focus with them until you can find someone to give you a better idea of value. You may get a surprise.

Thanks for the information. I will put them on the shelf and check around on the net and see what I can come up with. I only have $1.00 invested and was even thinking of useing them for some fun fishing at a small river where the smallmouth hit anything. I lose a lot of lures there so when I saw them I thought I could use them and if I lost them I wasnt out much money. I think I will hold off on that untill I find out if they may be worth something. Thanks again and if anyone comes across some pics of something close i would appreciate it.

I hit the net and found the patent number to be from 1943 but unfortunately there was no image or text associated with it. I came to a dead end at the pat office website.
