Ranger trailer question

I have a 95 ranger trailer with a second winch system attached to it. When i got it the guy told me it was a shallow water launching aid. The boat itself sits on bunks and doesn’t even touch the rollers. I’m thinking of removing the whole thing to remove the extra weight. Will this compromise the integrity of the trailer? Does anybody have any previous experience with this system? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Dan

I had a Ranger trailer with that same shallow water roller system, I used it once or twice. I really liked the thought process behind it as it worked very slick.
If I can ask why do you want to remove it? You really are not going to save that much weight. As for changing the integrity of the trailer, if I remember right the rollers are just bolted to the trailer frame allowing the roller arms to swing upward when you crank the secondary winch so you should be OK.

I’ve never used it and i’m not sure if really works correctly. It only moves the boat a couple of inches at the most when its cranked up tight. I’ve cranked it up and down and i haven’t seen the advantage. your probally right about not gaining much weight advantage. i was just curious if anybody had any experience with it.

That’s all its suppose to move it. It takes some of the weight of the boat off the trailer bunks and putting it on the rollers, making it easier to unload.

did you use a transom saver? I was thinking of attaching a bracket to the ends of the rollers. it would come straight out and then have a bend in the pole to the motor. any ideas?

    That should work

Slider is correct – it is designed to move the boat just off (or above in this case) the rollers on the keel of the boat so you can roll the boat off in shallow water or crank it back on. I had the system on my first Ranger and have ordered it on my 2009 model also. If you only use it a few times over the course of owning the boat it is well worth it!
