I have two sonar/gps units that I would like to mount on my boat. The two require different transducers. Does any one know if I can mount both transducers on the back of the boat and use both units at the same time?

If you use them both at the same time they will overlap/interfere…Wade Keuhl at Jolly Ann Marine can set you straight.

I’m trying to remember the “rule” was something like 50hz or so apart and they shouldn’t interfere, if they are the same frequency they will interfere.

You may be able to find some setting that work for you even if they frequencies are the same, Genereally speaking I can turn down the ping rate on one of my units (they both run 200K transducers) I can get the interference to a point where I don’t have any major issues.

One unit would mainly be used for checking depth. The other would be doing the rest of the work. If turning the ping speed down on the one works that would be great.

How do these boats with two and three units on their boats have it set up?

    Thanks for the input.

If you have the same frequency units they will interfer with each other if mounted both in the back. I’ve been able to use 2 of the same by putting 1 on the bowmount and 1 in the back up to ~20 fow. After that the cone angles start to interfere. You could try Lowrance and Hummingbird. If I recall
correctly Lowrance is 192 khz and Hummingbird is 400 khz

I run Humminbird and I get interference from lowrance if I get close enough to have the beams overlap. It just shows up as verticle lines on the screen no big deal. If I run the front locator and the back at the same time 21′ apart I get the same interference. It shows less on the 1197 than it does on the 788, but that may be because of the smaller screen.

If both units are 2D sonar only, then what is the “rest of the work”

If they are both Lowrance units, you can shut the sonar ping off on one unit.
