I need a new starting battery for my 135 optimax. Should I get a starting battery or a dual purpose battery, all my electronics hook up to this battery also?

I run a 27 series cranking battery and also run everything else in the boat off of that one except the trolling motor. I haven’t had any problems but I might not be right either

I would suggest you use a Marine Group 27 Interstate Starting battery. Dean has them in stock if your in the area. This battery has plenty of cranking power for the Opti 135 and has plenty of reserve to run all your electronics. You may get by with a group 24 but with the Opti I’d go 27.

I myself just went with a big ole deep cycle, still can’t find a good reason not to run a deep cycle as a starting battery, has way more than enough CCA.

Opti 135 needs all the CCA it can get. Thats why I would go with a starting battey. If you fish in the cold cold freeze your butt weather it will pay off down the road.

Well I think I have 880CCA or something like that on my 200 yamaha EFI and it’s started perfect everytime, at 10+ degrees. I always keep my batteries at 100% when off the water too.

    From the Mercury Marine website:

What is the correct battery for my OptiMax?

1000 Marine Cranking Amps (MCA) or 750 Cold Cranking AMPS (CCA)

YOU NEED A MINIMUM OF 800 CCA FOR THE OPTIMAX. IF YOUR GOING TO RUN A BUNCH OF ACCESSORIES I WOULD LOOK FOR A BATTERY WITH AT LEAST 950 CCA. 1000CCA WOULD BE BETTER.I’VE HAD THE 135 OPTI AND THEY HAVE A NEED FOR MAGNUM CCA. AWESOME MOTOR THOUGH.BEST MOTOR I’VE EVER HAD.I KNOW THEY MAKE SOME BIG GELL BATTERIES NOW, THAT WOULD BE MY CHOICE!

I would go with a group 30 1525mca 1205cca 205 reserve. You can probably get by with a 27 but a 30 is only about 30 bucks more and battery issues can ruin a day on the water.

If you have the room, I agree 100%!

last year I bought an Interstate 24HD starting battery, my 3rd starting battery in 6 years on my boat. the guy that sold it to me says they should last 6 years easy! his recommendation was to check the water level right away and then again after 30 days . during season of course…. we’ll see.
