Hey guys, I was wondering how many people run one of these?? I have a 2001 1890 Warrior backtroller, and was thinking about putting one in. Does anyone else have this boat, where is the best place to mount them……Thanks!

Yamaha really pushes for installing them. I put the smaller version on my F115. I used a stainless plate bolted to the portside transom and bolted the filter bracket to the plate. It’s a pretty simple installation. The only caution you might have is to mount the plate far enough over so that it doesn’t interfere with the steering rod from the motor. If you’d like, PM me an email address I’ll go down snap a couple photos and send’em to ya jerr

I have one, I had installed is sits in the bildge area, I went to a raccor filter with the clear bowl on the bottom, have yet to see any water. I think I have some pics hosted, Ill check later if I get on a real computer (posting on my phone).

I also have the 1890 Warrior Backtroller and have never heard of anyone adding the Fuel/water seperator. Have you had problems?

When does a person make the decision to add one?

I am in the dark on this one boys.

Then why doesn’t Yamaha put one in the motor next to the fuel filter?

They might rig them on the newer boats, but mine is PRE-filter separator era. Read that as OLD jerr

Guys, correct me if I am wrong. My new boat with a Yamaha 150 4 stroke came rigged with one. The best chance of needing one is if you use gas with ethenol. I try to not use it but sometimes you can’t get around it. If you only use regualr gas, I don’t think you would need one.

I look at the filter as a necessary evil. Whether it’s ethanol or debris, injectors and shop labor are expensive. jerr

Yamaha Fuel/water filter. i have one that was factory installed on my boat. do i need to take the filter off yearly and drain it? the boat is two years old and i’ve never touched the filter.

can i just drain the filter, or do i need to actually replace it?

I believe Yamaha calls for replacement of the filter yearly or 100 hours which ever comes first. Filter should be cheap enough, heck I bought a whole filter kit for like $25 that had the mounts and 2 filter for like $25, can’t believe filters are more than $10. I dump them out to see if I can see water or anything in there, I then usually burn that (the gas) in my truck ( minus any chunks of stuff which I haven’t found)

    Cliff notes “Replace it”

    thanks nick!

and probably a dumb question, but you are supposed to fill it with clean fuel before installing, correct?

Yeah you want to fill it somehow before you start the motor, lots of people fill them most of the way before hand and carefully screw it back on, I just filled it and primed it with the primer bulb, worked fine no hiccups.
