Fuel/Water filter Instal Question

Dumb question: (Yamaha F150/Skeeter 1880) I’ve never replaced my fuel water separator, but plan on doing so tomorrow – before I hit the water again. My question is: Other than just changing the filter, am I supposed to do anything special for this installation? My concern is – will the F150 suck the fuel through the empty fuel/water separator filter (that thing is huge!)? Will this be a problem? Will I be able to pull fuel from the tank with the fuel/in-line ball – by simply pumping it? I just want to make sure that when I change this thing, that everything will run once I hit the water again. Any installation tips/advice?
    Thanks.

No questions are dumb. If you don’t know this is a great place to get opinons if not solid answers.
You should have no problems with changing the filter.
Be sure when you put the new 1 on that you put a very light coating on oil on the rubber seal to make the next change MUCH easier to remove. ( Just like changing the oil in a car/truck). After you get the new filter on , you will need to pump the bulb a bit until it fills the area in the filter. You’ll know it when the primer bulb firms up.
    Good luck !

I was able to prime mine no problems with the primer bulb. I thought about buying the part that the fuel hose hooks into and pumping some gas til it didn’t appear I’m getting air.

Fill the new filter with fresh gas before installing it. It saves lots of pumping.

    Thanks guy’s.
You provided me with the answers I was looking for.
Birddog: I was thinking of doing that, but was not sure if it was necessary.
    Thanks again.

I was told when I bought my yamaha to always make sure its primed before you try starting it or something with the efi will get burned out, i don’t know what exactly.

In other words, it would be a good idea to never try starting a yamaha efi with an empty filter and unprimed line.

I hurts the fuel pumps if you don’t prime things properly, everyday, every time, it stress the pumps, though it’ll probably start fine, you’ll shorten the life of the pumps.

I was going to fill the filter ahead of time too, I just know my luck and I’d drop it and spill gas everywhere, mine isn’t super easy to get to.

Mine installs vertically so I fill the new filter with gas before installation.
