Looking for opinions on Minn Kota quick release brackets for a Terrova.

    MKA-16, which is aluminum
    MKA-22, which is composite

Is it worth the extra money for the composite model?

I have the aluminum model on my terrova 101. It’s worked just fine for the year that I’ve had it in place.

I have the composite model on my Terrova 80. It seems to work fine. I do not take it off very often, but seems to hold very well. The one advantage of the alum. bracket is that it spreads the bolts out over a larger area. The composite bracket has a 4″ x 6″ (just guessing on size) puck that you mount to the boat with 4 bolts. The alum. bracket is more like 14″ x 8″. The only advantage I can see for the composite would be if you do a lot of family boating the composite puck is not in the way and has no sharp edges. Hope this helps a little!!

The amuminum brackets have a little slop in them. (They “clunk” every time you hit the power.) I’d go composite.

Great post , I was wondering the same thing. Have you priced them out anywhere?

I plan on ordering the Terrova from Jolly Ann Sales, so I will get the bracket through Wade, too. The composite model is $30 more, if I remember correctly ($40 vs. $70, with motor purchase).

I had the composite on my last boat. Very slick indeed! Very simple to remove trolling motor, or put back on for that matter! What I liked the most was if we went somewhere and stayed overnight, I could just take the trolling motor off in seconds and lock it in my truck.

same as stated above. I have owned both, there was a rattle with the aluminum and the composite is easier to remove for long hauls. You do have to have a small padlock to fit the keeper on the composite though, not a big deal.

I’ve owned both myself too, and I’d go composite, without hesitation.

(You should see the setup I got, I actually got a quick release on a quick release It’s the only way it worked for my situation…. )

Ryan, I have used the MKA-16 for years and have had no issues with it. Works fine for me! The point about the edges being sharper is true but it’s never given me any trouble.
