    Hi to all.
I am looking for some information on what range of outside temp. I can run a fuel/oil injected motor at? I was advised if its below 40 degrees outside its risky to run an oil injected motor. Is this true, or is it just someones opinion? Any help is appreciated…since i really want to go fishing and its only 36 deg outside.

I have never heard that and wouldn’t have ever even considered it. I would have no problems running it.

Lets see how many snowmobiles and four wheelers are oil injected, nobody quits running them below 40 degrees F. I`ve run my Opti at 8 degrees never a problem. Except for freezing my butt off. How many guys post about fishing pool 4 in sub degree weather I don`t see engines blown up all over the place. My answer is they don`t know what they were talking about.

Yeah, these guys are right. We do this all the time. Just remember to drain the boat down and motor too. Once on the trailer I trim it down just B4 the skag hits and run the motor for 10-20 seconds to make sure no water is hiding. I think youre being a bit too cautious, you just need to be smart about water freezing after you pull the boat out.

I have ran a Evinrude injected motor in the winter for 7 plus years. No problems other than the plugs may foul if you don’t run it wide open once in awhile.

I would recommend running Evinrude XD100 oil in the colder temperatures. We have many customers that fish year round with no problems.

Ive heard that a few of the pros have blown up some e tecs in cold water but if you give the engine time to warm up and not run it like you stole it you probably wont have any problems.

Thanks for all the input. I think I will hit the water sooner then i expected to then. I was told to run XD50 from the same person, but I may switch to XD100 then. I have not been on the mississippi for 15 years and primarily fish lakes and creeks but am looking forward to returning to river fishing this year. Thanks for all the help, i appreciate it.

You run the motor out of water?? I heard never to do that even for a few seconds.

It’s perfectly fine to do what he describes. The lower unit is still wet. It blows out all residual water so nothing freezes.

About 5-6 years ago, there was some problems with the evenrudes oil clotting in cold weater. Once they introduced the xd-100, that solved the problems as I understand it.
