Just wanted to say thanks to the delivery guy for our local post office who snapped my st.croix legend tournament in half. He said it got caught in the door of the truck. It was even in a pvc tube and he still managed to bend the tube. I think a little more happened than a door. I used to do some plumbing and you just dont bend 2″ pvc. No insurance on it so I guess I get to take in the ole turd shooter. Got it on e-bay for a really good price I guess i’ll have to eat the replacement fee and chalk one up for the experience. The lady there said theres nothing we can do even though he admitted to it. , Dan

Bring it in to a st. croix dealer near you and they will send it in for a nominal fee and it will be good as new!!

Thats funny because thats the same thing I thought. The lady there is really nice and all I wanted to say was you have to be @&*%ing kidding me. She felt bad because she knows how much stuff I get. Oh well, Dan

Ya I dont think I would give up so easy… If he admitted that it was his fault, there has to be a person higher up that can make things happen.

I just received my exchange today, I had broke the tip of one of my Avids and for 60 bucks my rod dealer sent it back to St. Croix and let me take a brand new one of the shelf, great deal! Your not out yet….

One hell of a door. I don’t think I could snap 2″ pvc slamming it in the door of a steel safe! As the late Paul Harvey would say……….”and now for the rest of the story.”

I might keep pressing buttons and see what happens.

    JD,
Thats a bummer. I would continue to go after the Post Office.

If that doesn’t go anywhere, Check out the St Croix warranty and service website. Here’s the link. I snapped my bro inlaws muskie rod and got a new replacement one under their Gold Star Service Plan. I think I had the new rod within a week of sending the broken one in. It will cost 50.00 plus about 10.00 shipping. Still better than buying a new rod. And they don’t use the USP.

I would say this is one of the cases where a squeaky wheel gets the oil. Take pictures of the PVC tubing, the rod and any paperwork they gave you. Explain to them that normal handling only covers so much abuse and you feel in this case it went way farther than that. Use the internet and contact your local news station. When you become a thorn in their side then it may be worth it to them to settle with you rather than to keep getting the negative publicity.

What was the shipping agreement between you and the seller on Ebay? As the customer why don’t you call the seller and advise what has happened and see if you might be able to get some resolve. If I get a broken product sent to me I call the seller or business and ask for there help getting it resolved as its not in the condition as when you purchased.

That’s too bad but Post Office guidelines have been in place longer than any of us have been alive. That’s just the risk you take. Pretty long odds though. I would email St. Croix customer service and explain what happened. They will likely give you some kind of deal and make you whole. That’s the kind of company they are.

Unless things changed I’m pretty sure that there is implied insurance up to a certain value ($50 sticks in my head) for any parcel shipped via the USPS. I could be wrong but you may want to do some digging, if they will make good on that it gets you a lot closer to covering the cost of repair/replacement through St. Croix.

Thanks for all the advice. I’ve contacted the usps customer service department. They are going to call me tomorrow. I explained to them too that this wasnt just some door. Like Brian said it would take one hell of a door to do that kind of damage. It kinda looks like somebody hit it with a maul. I’m going to push the postal service until i get a satisfactory responce or reimbursement. I know st. croix will replace it for 50$ but thats 50$ more than I have already spent. I’ll try to post some pics. Thanks for the rallying cry boys , Dan

After looking at the pictures I would say the load shifted in the plane and the tube got bent. Doesn’t look much like a door unless the Hulk was slamming it.

As a side note, I used to ship thousands of packages a year in a previous job and quickly found out that USPS was my last option…. and still is. They nickel, dime and dollar you for services that other shipping alternatives include in their price like tracking, delivery confirmation, insurance and lame oversize restrictions, etc. And filing a claim is, shall we say, not customer service oriented either. So when you have a choice, try Speedee, Fed Ex or UPS.

Good luck dealing with the Post Office.

    Government at its best.

Unless you pay for insurance they can’t help you. They can’t even track a package for standard shipping.

    Worthless…

I’ve been hosed a couple of times by the USPS and if I have a choice I use FEDEX or UPS.
