I have just noticed these. I used a Shimano Cumara in Mexico and it was unbelievable. Mojo has the same look but for about $120.00 less. Obviously a difference in materials but for 100 bucks these Mojo rods look like the real deal. I take it these are manufactured in China like the Triumph line?

I just bought the mojo slopfrog 7′ heavy action. It looks and feels super sweet. I can’t wait to try it out this spring. If it performs like the 8 other st.croixs i’ve purchased I will be more than happy. One of the biggest factors for buying this rod was the price. Knowing st.croix makes a quality product that they stand by I had no problem buying the rod. Good luck, dan

Steve. Give Dean a call at Everts Resort. I just bought a Mojo Rod from him and I think it’s going to be the deal. 715-792-2333

Second best rod I’ve fished with, short of the legend elite, great feel, great bang for the buck, I plan on replacing my rods with them.

Has anyone had their hands the the 7 ft. crankin’ rod? I was wondering about it being MH with moderate action.

thanks. I will do that. i have a Cumara on the way and the Mojo is going to be my next rod.
great price point for that rod. it’s so inexpensive it led me to believe they were manufactured in the same place as the Triumphs

Initial production is being made in the U.S.

Soon to be made in “North America.” Which means made in Mexico is what I’ve read…

I test drove two of the Mojo spinning rod on Tuesday and I’m impressed! Watch for an evaluation.

My research indicates that these will be good rods. That said, I am an St Croix “Avid” guy and evaluated the difference between the 7 foot Avid and the 7 foot MOJO for a frog rod recently… (I am a total Croix guy, and recently acquired the Avid over the Mojo).

Now, granted, money matters, but the MOJO (from my research) indicates it is simply a “well-dressed Premier.” That is not a bad plan, as it incorporates come Legend Features. In the past, I have purchased Premiers, and they are solid rods, but heavy and less sensitive than an Avid. If you are going to fish all day, the weight matters… Of course, as for sensitivity for a frog rod… its not like you don’t know you get a strike!

This is one that has always mystified me. You fish all day, come home to go to the gym to pump iron. why is an ounce such a big deal?

Fair, John. You have always been a direct and pragmatic man, and I respect that. So, before answering, I’d like to address a few things that a couple friends recently reminded me after reading my post…

    1. I love St Croix Rods…I do. I am a huge advocate and own 11 now, so please do not read into this that I don’t think the Mojo Bass Rods may prove a great addition to their line-up and offer good value in a solid, American made rod to my fellow bass anglers! I do. Shoot, I want St Croix to be successful!

    2. The Avid in lieu of the Mojo is in now in my rod collection for many reasons, but the leading reasons would boil down to:
    A. Weight (granted, its only a little over an ounce)
    B. Sensistivity (SC3 outerforms SC2 graphite all day long with sensitivity, and I plan to flip heavy cover with this rod).
    C. Warrantee (lifetime vs 5 year – justifies some of the $60 in my mind)
    D. Balance (There is something special about the Avid balance, and handle grip “bump” that just feels right).

    3. And, finally, I was reinded that my past frog rod was, well, not great… it will be displacing my 1990 Cabelas Fish Eagle II 7.5 foot Heavy Muskie rod that I have been using for Froggin… its kind of heavy… Not real sesnitive (at all!) So… a nice upgrade in general that I have wanted to do for quite some time.

Now, as for answering your direct question… it “can”… And, I would suggest you would agree in different scenarios. For this circumstance, maybe its warranted, maybe not. Admittedly, I am no expert (as Shaver and BC will attest) at Froggin’, but I do know that a lighter rod is a nice for making a frog dance in open water…the wrist gets tired.

And, unlike some, my wrist gets aweful sore from handling that extra weight, its simply not accustomed to it…

    Ryan,

I should have added the techniques we do are far more fatiguing than the weight of the rod. Some that come to mind are burning ¾ oz spinnerbaits for smallmouth. You talk about one that will ware your down. Then you have flipping and landing fish in milfoil or burning a big jig through pads. You mentioned frogs in the slop, hauling them out will make your arms look like Popeye! With the exception of finesse fishing it’s the technique not the rod weight that takes a toll.

Hi Bryan I to am a St.Croix guy. I have both Premier and Avid’s. My Premier’s being my baitcasters and my spinnig being the Avids. I’ve been seriously looking at the Mojo line for the 6’8 MXF and the 6’9 MLXF spinning rods. I thought I could kill 2 birds here. Using the 2 rods for dragging jigs for “eyes” and also for my bass fishing. You know tubes, skipping, shaky head’n. On their web site I see the Avid and the Mojo in these spinning rods are only .1 of an ounce different in the weight. I love my Avids but they are shorter rods that I jig with. I don’t have the longer spinning rods in Avid. Just wondering what you guys thought. Thanks Glenn
