I would like to go to a hi-viz line, and i can see how on the muddy miss, it may not have a negative effect underwater on the fish. but, if i go to mille lacs, and use that same setup for slip bobbers, lindy rigs, or crawlers and blades, will that Hi-Viz line effect the fish on a clear lake?

If your not comfortable with it you can all ways tie a clear leader on it. Last spring we were fishing the pike chain of lakes, gin clear and the smallies moved to the beds and we could sight fish them, my hi vis Trilene made no diff.

Some fish may be more line shy than others, but that also can change with the fish activity level. According to some very authoritative figures in walleye fishing, walleyes are not line shy compared to fish such as smallies—but then again you hear the other side as well from some very good fisherman. I personally know one person who has used stren gold almost his entire fishing career for everything from bluegills(which appear to be very line shy at times) to walleyes in every type of water clarity imaginable—he has caught about 10,000 tons of fish in his lifetime, might just come down to confidence and situation at hand.
    Still, a very good topic.

Remeber, Mille Lacs walleye swim into gill nets every spring. Don’t give them too much credit for being line shy.

With that said, my brother and I did an un-scientific test a few years ago. Side by side corking with clear mono and xt-solar mint green. We both cought fish.

Like mentioned previously, you will be running a leader lindy rigging and spinner rigging, so I don’t see it as a problem.

While up on mille for the opener I had hi viz tangerine orange line spooled on one of my rods, everyone gave me crap about it, I caught a ton of fish with it, lots of funny looks as well.

I don’t know about any other waters but the ‘sippi and I’m not too certain about that either…but here’s my walleye set up.

4oz sinker, 10/0 Gamakazu hook and 80 pound Hi Vis PowerPro.

I’ve tried to do everything to NON finesse these fish…but they continue to waste my bullheads.

Not to forget the Pool 4 Flathead lure in Jan/Feb.
