What is the better trailer for a new Alumacraft 185 Tournament Sport a 4000lb bunk tandem axel or a 3000lb roller single axel? It will be a Shoreland’r trailer.
    Thanks

With a lighter boat like that a single axel should be fine and easier to move around.

I have the same boat with a 4000 lb. Prestige bunk trailer single axel. I would go with the bunk I’ve had roller trailers and would never go back to a roller.

I agree the bunks are nice but it depends on where you fish. Some small lakes with shallow landings are tough with some bunk trailers.I dont think I would ever go back to a roller either.

Well either trailer I’m sure will more than do the job, the questions you need to answer is the single versus the tandem, IMHO I’d stay single, it’s much easier to manuver the trailer around, and less maintence. When I first got my boats I was thinking I wish I got the tand. trailer but my parking space is somewhat tight, normally I back it in by hand the last couple feet, thats much harder by hand with the tand. Also most of my trailering is local with a couple trips a year more than an hour’s drive.
Then it’s an issue bunks and rollers, I like rollers for shallower ramps, I have been very close to not being able to float my boat off the trailer a couple times, but I do have to say my boat goes on the trailer darn near perfect everytime with bunks, rollers can take some talent to figure out how deep to back the trailer in to get the boat on straight. With the rollers you can always winch the boat all the way up, with the bunks there isn’t a chance with my boat to winch it up, you gotta drive it all the way on.

Again I would say one trailer is really better, but I’ll bet one suits your needs better.

Go with the bunk…… pushing the limits with my Alumacraft on a single axle, especially after packing up for a week in Canada. My wife and I both hate landing the boat on a roller trailer. I’d really like to be one of those guys with a bunk trailer that guns the front of the boat through the rear window of their SUV or truck topper.

I think my tandem axle takes the heaved roads much better then my other trailers with a single axle. You don’t get the HOP effect. My 2 cents

If the price is the same and you get your pick, get the bunk.
