Berkley Gulp question on useage

Here it is: how ‘used’ do you let your Gulp get before you toss it? I ask because after use, I always toss it back in the bucket. That way I can use those pieces that no longer stay on a jig for tipping spoons, cranks, etc.
So…do you guys keep these pieces until they will no longer stay on a hook? Or do you discard of them earlier? Maybe a shorter question would be, how long do you think they’ll keep their effectiveness?

    Thanks–

I assume you are talking about the berkley gulp alive. If so berkley says you can reuse them as much as you want but if they are all torn up i usually toss them

i use it until it gets chewed up enough to where i think it loses the look and movement to be effective. that can be after one fish, a couple, half a dozen or sometimes more.
quite a few minnow and jerk shad tails get bitten off by walleyes and saugers. when that happens, they get pitched.
there are days that even though we are catching fish, all of the gulp gets recycled back into the juice. thats why i wish berkley would sell containers of the sauce only.

I’m with you on that one.

I am told, however, that the spray Alive they make is the same stuff. I guess you could always empty a bottle of that into the tub.

i’ve seen the spray alive but not in the flavors i would want for walleye.
i guess crawfish or nightcrawler would work. berkeley also has garlic – must be for the bass guys – and saltwater flavors of crab, herring, shrimp or squid.
but why no shad?, which i assume is the original gulp alive flavor.

Lots of stores still carry the Powerbait sauce in the 8 ounce squeeze bottles that is walleye specific and works quite well. Take a margarine tub with a cover, toss some gulp baits in there along with a generous shot of juice and let stew for a week. Gulp is water soluable, and that scent has a water base and will permiate the baits.

I have a lot more confidence in the powerbait product than the gulp juice. For that matter, cod liver oil will help your stale gulp products when soaked in this fashion and is cheaper [about $5 for a 4 ounce bottle at any pharmacy and it won’t wear out or spoil….its a pure product].
