Just thought that I would let everyone know that I was in Gander yesterday and the Clam prices are super cheap! This is by far the best time to buy a shack. I’m going back today to pick up an X4. I’ll report back with more specific prices when I return.

Clam of course they are they are a solid reputable company, oh wait are you talking about Gander, yeah they don’t have any of those values…..
LOL just checked Gander stock is at $1.84 You can darn near buy a Gander Mountain for the same price as the Clam.
February 12, 2009 at 6:09 pm #747640Gander appears to be cutting costs by eliminating employees. Besides the ‘one’ cashier about the only manned position is the door greeter.

Door greeter? You got to be kidding. Or are you serious?

Oh he’s definitely not joking now they barely have anyone working there. That door greeter is definitely there every hour though! If you can’t find anyone in the department you’re in its cuz he’s standin by the door!
February 12, 2009 at 7:57 pm #747700I don’t think I have ever run into a door greeter at the La Crosse GM.
But thanks foe the clarification.

I’ve never been so disappointed leaving a outdoor store ever GM is almost as much of a waste of space as that tiny Cabella’s in PDC, no wait … it’s more.
February 13, 2009 at 3:19 am #747927And I wonder why they built a brand new gander mountain in eau claire… that is out in the middle of nowher
February 13, 2009 at 4:12 pm #748052The Woodbury store is big on door greeter. The last time I was there (this week) I had to wait about 2 minutes for a cashier to show up! This after giving up and going to, you guessed it, the door greeter for assistance elsewhere in the store. That store re-defines poor service.
February 13, 2009 at 4:23 pm #748055And yet, all you guys who consistently complain about Gander keep going back. What’s that old rule, “fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me”.

Actually I believe according to our last President it was “Fool me once……. shame on you. Fool me………..( Pause while thinking)… Can’t fool me again.” But I’m sure either one works.

If I need tackle/gear then I can swallow my pride in order to do it. Besides the only reason I’m in there lately is to use a gift card. Also by complaining maybe someone will notice and do something about it. Otherwise I try to stear towards Sportsmans Wharehouse.
February 14, 2009 at 12:03 am #748208Kooty, I was in one about 3 years ago. I had some time to kill and there was a nasty thread going on here about a different location.
At that time I predicted that Gander would be out of business within three years. I was wrong.
I’m not sure if there on line business is helping them or if it just slows the bleed. Competition is good for us consumers. But from what I’ve see (three years ago) they aren’t competition.
In fact, staying open is actually hurting their business.
How many threads have there been on our site talking about out of stock, poor service (because of lack of employees) over the last few years. Yes, Sportsmans Warehouse is a sponsor here, but there are the same threads going on over at a number of other sites I’ve been told.
Speaking of past Presidents…how did Reagan put it?
MR. CEO…close down them stores! Well, it was something along those lines.
I don’t know if I can ever remember a business that went from pretty darn good (Burger Bros) to a train wreck.
PS If you happen to be employee by Gander…this is not a slam towards it’s employees…upper level management is a whole other story.
February 14, 2009 at 12:39 am #748226Yup Mark Baker ran them into the ground and left.. Kind of similar to what he did at Home Depot….
I’m suprised we haven’t seen them on a dead list yet…. I’m willing to bet it’s commingBassn DanPosts: 977February 14, 2009 at 4:54 am #748292No need to worry at Gander Mt.
The store in La Crosse is reorganizing and putting their BOOT department right by the entry. I’m so excited.
To give the people that work there credit, the store has improved over what it was before, and I would guess that the boot thing is a Corporate decision but they have a LONG way to go to be a viable store for decent fishing tackle and equipment…

February 17, 2009 at 5:56 am #749346I suppose the Canadian company that just bailed out or bought Sportsmans Warehouse and dumped a bunch of much needed cash into the company will keep them a float for a while now?…
All is not lost I guess if it doesn’t work out for both Gander and Sportmans warehouse… we’ll still have Walmart to go to!…
Go Gander!
