    I recently purchased a new HDS 5.

Has anyone used one yet at all?
I am looking to add battery voltage into my overlay data in the sonar and chartplotter pages.
It is not listed in the choices.
Is there any way to add it in?

It also looks like Lowrance got rid of the “Icon” feature.
You can add waypoints easy enough, but Icons are gone.

Had it out on the ice once so far, sonar worked great, with fast GPS fix as well.

    So far, so Good!

    Thanks

Did you get an electronic manual with it? I’ve been looking for them on their website but haven’t seen them.

    NO.
Just a 130 page booklet. Lots of reading.

You may have to do a 50/50 screen split with the gauges
page if you want to constantly monitor it.

Maybe the update will fix it. You know it’s coming!!

Here are a few pics from today.
They are not the greatest pics, I used my camera phone.
I was fishing a very weedy area, weeds came up 1-2′ off bottom in 11′ water.
The bottom lock signal worked great, it never lost bottom like the LMS 522 did.
The red skinny line is the bottom.
I had it set to manual mode and chose the upper and lower limits at 3 & 13′.
Had no trouble at all picking up a #14 marmooska.
I picked up a dozen keeper gills for the pan, released many more.

    Hi Bob,

Is there two SD card slots on the HDS 5″?

Did they leave the screen shot feature in there?

    Thanks!

One SD cart slot. The door is held shut by a magnet.

You can record live footage on the sonar screen.
There must be some sort of internal hard drive.
It has a bar on the bottom that you can “rewind” so you can see footage that has passed.
    Way cool neat feature.

I’m pretty confident that is not a new feature It’s also how you’d go about making you own lakemaps with the proper software.

Doc Sampson does classes on that I do believe

Overlay press pages once, select which page, and then press menu to get to overlay choices. You will notice small text in the top of the window right after you push the pages button.
Screen Capture: Menu, Settings, System, Screen Capture.

I am looking to add battery voltage in my overlay data.

I figured out you need to add it in the demo (simulator mode).

Now, voltage is listed in the overlay data, but it does not register. It has three blank lines.

    Any ideas?

Select edit overlay data, menu, select data, other and press Zin and pick internal or external.

The only choice I have in that “other” is “Magnetic Variation”.
No choices for internal or external.

I think I may have to call Lowrance on this one.

Hi Bob, did you end up getting the voltage going on the overlay? I’m having the same issue and have tried different power cables and batteries.

Yes, the software upgrade fixed this problem.
