Just got off the phone with Lowrance and they confirmed they will have side imaging coming out this year. They could not divulge any further info than that, but it is coming. Now hopefully it is somewhat affordable
I just heard that yesterday as well. Can’t wait to see what they came up with and how it will compare to the Humminbird side imaging units. Lowrance didn’t really have a choice in my opinion. They had to do this to compete or else lose out on a lot of money. Gotta love technology!
I attended a recent Humminbird seminar at The Skeeter Boat Center in Chippewa Falls, WI. David Proot mentioned that Humminbird had a patent (in regard to side imaging) on attaching the transducer to the boat. So I believe any Side Imaging Sonar would have to pass that patent. Humminbird has had the technology for several years but it was not brought to market until Johnson Outdoors purchased Humminbird a couple years ago.

Hummingbird actually had it on the market before that..but I don’t recall what it was called. Once the name was changed to “side imaging” is when it took off. Now I’m going to be sitting here all day trying to think of it’s name. 
Heck, I’ve got an old Eagle Strataview 128 on my boat that supposedly tells you if the fish are beneath, to the left, or to the right of the boat 
I just hooked up my side imaging Lowrance unit and so far
it’s been great!!
