Lowrance H2Oc

If things work out this year, I might be able to swing
a GPS unit with a tax refund this year. Seems like the
Lowrance H2Oc is a popular handheld and I hear the
Navionics chip is good for the Miss R.
I have noticed that Lowrance is coming out with new
    handheld units this Spring.
Does anyone know if these will be replacing the H2Oc?
Will the new units be able to run a Navionics chip?
(They take a micro SD card)?

I was told by a rep at Lowrance, the H2Oc will be replaced. Of their current 6 hand held units 3 will be replaced with 3 new products.

From what I can see, you’ll have to find the strength and determination to get over it.

As usual, this is the right place for the right answers
Guess I’ll just hold off till the new units come out.
I seem to always be buying the end of a model run on just about everything.
Hopefully Navionics comes thru with the micro SD card.
That is the right chip for Miss R, right?

Oh no, don’t misinterpret my posts. There’s no irritation in my part sweetie. From the people I talk to, you need every inch of screen possible… Although, I don’t think a hand held unit comes with a 21″ monitor.

I’m just happy small size doesnt bother you. That’s a step in the right direction.

The new H2O unit will be a touch screen unit which makes me wonder about screen crackage during the winter months and a stylus will definately be needed which is just something else to lose or drop down the hole.

Also .1000 of an inch all the way around = .4000 of an inch that is almost a 1/2 inch on an already small screen alot to lose when trying to get the most out of a handheld.

No concerns with the size here. I’m happy with what I see.

Apparently you’re not in the same boat. They have therapy for that ya know.

I forgot also, Navionics has more lakes BUT Lakemaster has better lake detail so I started with the Lakemaster chip and will be buying others as time goes on to compare but after some extensive research I opt’ed for the Lakemaster both websites have lake listings you may want to shop and compare before you commit.

Funny my Lakemaster chip arrived before my GPS now if only that would get here

Unless I’m missing something (not unusual )
the Lakemaster looked good for inland lakes, but
didn’t seem to have border river (Miss R.) stuff.
I was wanting to get depths (bathymetry) and locations
of wingdams on the chip. This seems to indicate
that Navionics is the way to go …..which then limits
you to the type of device that works with their chip,
    hence Lowrance.

The Lakemaster does have the Mississippi I think only pool 4 and the St. Croix in 1′ contours and it should show wingdams, rocks, stumps, etc. (dont quote me on that though just what I remember reading and if you have a memory like mine …wheres my keys now)

I don’t believe that to be the case. Most times those screens are measured diagonally. The display size on the H2Oc is 2.800″, while the new Safari measures at 2.700″. If it was a whole .400″ smaller, the screen size of the Safari would measure 2.300″.

I’ll do some digging, but reducing the screen size a whole .400″ would most likely be a product killer.

    Unlike reducing it .100″….

All Lakemaster MN chips, 2007 and newer, should have wingdams marked from pool 2 to the southern IA border.

If your 2007 or newer Lakemaster MN chip DOESN’T have the wingdams marked, here’s how to get them added to your chip… for $5.
