Just purchased a minnkota Pd 55 bow-mount trolling motor and mounting plate to place on the bow of my Lund rebel 16. Read the instructions and before I drill the holes I wanted to ask advice on do’s and dont’s regarding how to mount the motor. Seems pretty simple but some advice from those whom have done it is sometimes wise. Any tips and suggestions that would prove helpful would be most appreciated.

I would definatly dry fit it prior to any marking or drilling. get a feeling for how the motor will go down and lay. I made sure that my head of the motor was a close to the front tip of the boat as possible so that I wouldn’t need to adjust the steering much to get it to go the way that I want. Make sure that when you think you found the position you want for it that you put the motor in the stow position, and check that you are not rubbing on anything.
Make sure that you have enough support underneath what you are drilling. if the deck seems a bit weak, add a plate of metal or wood under neather to give it more uniform support.

    finally, measure twice, drill once.

    Good luck.

If you have a flat deck on the upper bow just make sure you dont drill into any stucture braces and not hit any bow light wires .I have mine mounted there and when I mounted it, it lays down right along the inside rail of the boat.

If you PM me an email addy I can send you a pic to show you how mine lays when not in use.

    Ditto DanK!

Only thing I would add is when you dry fit it in the deployed position to mark your holes, make sure you can reach where its coming thru the deck underneath.

Make sure that the head of the motor is completely inside the boat. That way any piers or dock posts wont hit the head.
