Upgrading sonar units…any advice?

I have a 2006 boat with an X-135 Lowrance in-dash graph. The boat is set up with an NMEA 2000 network. I am in the process of purchasing an LCX-27C unit (I do understand that the LCX-27 will not fit in the dash and I am planning on ram-mounting it). I was hoping to take the 135 unit and put it on the bow. My connectors are all blue and I understand the LCX-27 needs red. Any ideas about what additional equipment (wiring, connectors, adapters, etc.) would be needed? Has anyone ever does this transition, or something similar, before? Thanks.

The LCX-27 takes blue connectors except for the GPS module. I think that one is red.

    Welcome to IDO reel-linn!!

You’ll need an extension cable and an additional T to move

    the X-135 to the bow.

Blue cables might be hard to find these days.

You can then use a 127-05 adapter cable to connect a red

connector device to a blue connector network.

Are you buying a head only LCX-27 or a combo unit?

So my blue cords should just plug into the LCX-27 directly? I’m assuming because the GPS puck comes with the LCX-27 unit that I will not need an adapter from blue-to-red? In addition, I was hoping to link the two units (X-135 and LCX-27) together and for this, do you think I would need an adapter? Thanks again. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Again thank you guys! Dan, I think I bought a combo unit but it has not arrived yet. If it is a combo unit, would it include the necessary adapters? And thanks for the welcome!

Now that I’ve thought about it a little longer I realized the X-135 is sonar only so you are going to need a combo unit for sure.
I don’t quite understand why they set up the network to begin with other than to possibly share a speed sensor between multiple units or connect multiple sensors to one unit.
I purchased an LCX-27 last summer and received all the necessary hardware to set up the “red” network.
I guess I would have to see your setup or get more details
to decide if I would start fresh with the new hardware and
GPS module or try to tie into the existing hardware.

Dan, They started setting up some of the newer boats with the network so a guy could add what he wants at a later date. That’s becoming standard practice now. The boats are pre-rigged and ready to network.

    Hi Wade,

I bought a new Alumacraft in 2007 and after researching
the Lowrance product and how to set up a network I called
my dealer, Hallberg Marine, to ask if there was already
a NMEA 2000 network pre-rigged in my boat. They didn’t
even know what I was asking about.

What do you think reel-linn has for a pre-rigged network?
If it was set up for one in-dash unit it could be as simple
as one T with terminators and a 2′ extension cable to the
    unit.
