Just bought 2 ultralight 2 piece 7ft long rods from a guy that didn’t like them. Can anyone give me a opinion on these rods. They look like they would make good pan fish rods. Didn’t know that Hi-Tech made summer rods, just figured they made ice rods.

Do they have the 6″ red blank tip? I have a 6’6″ by Hi-Tech with that ultra flimsy tip and yes, they do work well for panfishing BUT………….the butt end of the blank is so strong that it’s easy to forget what the tip is actually limited to do. They’re extremely flexible but the tip will break easily if you’re not scooping your catches. Hoisting the fish in and grabbing it off you line puts too much stress in that tip section and believe me………….it may not break every time………..but you will break it!

There’s another maker of a similar design…………….can’t think of the name…………..but I’d like to try theirs and see if it’s built a little better.

However…………if you like jigging for panfish or tossing superlight jigs around, that design is actually a lot of fun! You just have to be careful with your catch once it’s boatside.

I have a 6’6″ UL Hi Tech prototype that I got from a rep, no red tip and it seems about perfectfor panfish.Have used it several years with no broken tips.Maybe its a litle stiffer than the production ones.
