power auger units w/o motor?

    Can you buy a power auger w/o the motor and put your own motor on it, possibly save a bit of money doing this?

    Overall you could probably build one, but I doubt you’d end up saving much in the long run if you were able to source the parts.

    Lots of people out there running 20-30 year old augers, I think they are a worthwile investment. I know I’ve seen them priced new in the box under $300.

    Yes you can buy just the auger. They run anywhere from $100 to 175 depending on make and size.

    Yeah, i wondered about the cost issue. Getting the whole thing together would probably end up costing about the same.

    Reason i asked though, is i have a bored out 350 small block i was going to use as a motor. Like a hot knife through butter!!!
