Tell me what you think of the flasher performance in comparison to a Vexilar FL-18? The graph doesn’t appeal to me and I would rather carry my handheld Lowrance GPS than a whole ice fishing depth finder unit. It’s a good idea, but…it’s not the green box. TGIF
Right now, I would probably go with the Vexilar FL-18 but I’m hoping that we get to hear some feedback on these Lowrance units over the next year. It’s tough to say how it will perform when it’s such a new unit. Does anyone else have a thought on this???
One thing we do know, the Vexilar is tried and true!
Wade I played around with the ice machine yesterday. It is a neat looking unit but the transducer arm is junk.Very cheap plastic that looks like it will break very easy.I can’t imagine it holding up very long in the cold.Marcom has a great arm for their transducer.I still like the Vexilar with no arm. That’s good information Ryan. Maybe that’s an issue Lowrance will address. From what I’ve been hearing and reading, it sounds like the Vexilar FL-18 might still be the best way to go. We still have a good stock of the FL-18 Pro Pack and the FL-18 Ultra Pack. Both are all set up for ice fishing, including battery and charger.
Besides the arm, what did you think of the Lowrance? Did it perform well? Or were you not on the water?
Wade,I thought the unit was neat.I used it on simulater mode. The arm is not good and wonder if moisture will form on the screen during ice season? To me the Vexilar is a way better unit. Ryan Hale
I don’t know Ryan. We’ll have to wait and see. Gary Roach helped design the Lowrance Ice Machines so maybe they’ve addressed some of these concerns. I hope we’ll be able to find some reviews in a month or two.
