Tying Stinger hooks

    Recently on my last Walleye trip up on the river I noticed my stinger supply getting low, so here I sit just finishing up tying 40 rigs. I can count on one hand the number of times in the last 20 yrs using minnows, so I really rely on that extra hook when fishing my Jigs. I use a screw in eye which is attached to the desk of which I tie 4 LB. line using the improved clinch knot. Next I tie a number 10# mustad treble hook, the line ends up being one inch long. I some times add the end of a ring worm tail to the stinger. I would like to find a stiffer line because sometimes the line wraps around the hook. I like the 4Lb line because it’s less detechable and is less costly when hangups occur resulting in more jigs retrieved. Is there any body else out there tying their own stingers? I’m interested in your techniques. {John}

    I used to tie my own and fould it allot easier to just buy them. I used a little heavier line. 6-8 lb. I don’t think there is a probably with fish deteching it and when they do it is to late.

    has anyone tried the afw surflon micro supreme leader wire. wow that was a mouthful. i tried it for the first time, cause for me it was always a struggle to get the right length tying them. wrong knot i suppose. anyways these are a nylon coated mini 49 strand of stainless. i use the 20#test. the initial cost might not be favorable but the results are great. well at least for me. if anyone has had some bad experiences with these i would like to hear about them. so far so good, no wall hangers on them………..yet anyways.

    I use 6 lb on the main line and 4 lb for the stinger line that way if the treble hangs into a log I loose only the stinger.
    It only took maybe an hour & a half to tie 40 stingers.
    I’m experimenting with stren this time.

    I use 10 lbs. mono, I snell the trebel on first, then use a small leader clevis to clamp the other end to a splitring. Then once I have about 20 or so done I dip the split ring portion into plastidip. Hang them from a wire hanger to dry,about 2 hrs.
