I have a warrior 2090 tiller and was wondering what lenght shaft I need on a kicker motor? Would a 5 horse motor be good or should I go with a 9horse? Thanks

You are going to want a 20 inch shaft.

If you spend any amount of time using your kicker you will do well to get a kicker that was built to be a kicker rather than just a small outboard. One of the best on the market is the T8 Yamaha. Mercury makes a Pro kicker as well. I do not know much about the Merc but the Yamaha is just about as essential on my boat as the main engine. I spent years using a 2 stroke 15 horse for a kicker. I am very glad those days are done. When I stepped up to the Yamaha I said goodbye to the 2 stroke issues such as keeping a fuel tank of mixed gas in the boat and getting headaches and nausea from breathing the gas/oil fumes when trolling with the wind. In exchange I got a very, very reliable engine that is whisper quiet, starts easily on even the coldest days, is plumbed right into the main fuel tank and idles down to a crawl (I can easily drag jigs and pull lindys with my kicker).

Do you self a favor and take a look, there is a difference.

May I jump on the 20″ T8 bandwagon?

I put one on my Crestliner after learning about the power of the kicker motor. Sold the crestliner and had one put on my Ranger. Couldn’t be happier with the motors, or happier with how they’ve improved my success on the water.

As has been stated here on IDO more than once, the only thing a kicker motor will do for you is help you catch more fish.

If you’re looking to purchase a new T8, drop me a PM…I may be able to steer you in the right direction.

One other reason for going to a true kicker. Are the engine mounts are built to withstand the abuse they get when tilted up and running rough water or tuna boat waves.

I have a 9.9 Johnson 4 stroke for a kicker and I do worry about loosing it when it gets rough and the boat is pounding hard.

I could not have said it better myself, I bought a T8 two years ago and love it, best kicker on the market hands down!

I have a 1890 Warrior with a T8 kicker and I’m very happy the way it has performed. I troll a lot in the open basin of Mille Lacs where 2-3 foot rollers are common.

I’m looking to put a Merc Pro Kicker on my 1900 Pro V. I was under the impression that the 25″ shaft was a must have.

    Thoughts?
