Okay so again with my equipment questions. I went out with my new to me, used, Strikemaster lazer mag ultra auger last weekend and the blades are obviously dull. I know this one has 3 blades on it, how many blades do the packs in stores have that are like $30 or $40? Also, when replacing the blades is it as simple as unscrewing the old and putting the new ones on?

I’m not sure on the price. Make sure the surfaces are clean when you replace the blades. The smallest obstruction throws off the blade angle. THere was member who was having problems,…..all it was, was a piece of tape on the blade

I wear leather gloves when replacing. They are just so darn sharp.

They had problems with that auger, (i know because I had one) they took that auger bit in on trade on a lazer auger bit for free. the new one will have new blades on it and a way better ice bit over the red one you have now, Mine iced up a lot and slowed cutting in half to none when real cold out.

so you would get a new auger bit as opposed to the new blades? Will any Strikemaster lazer bit work on this?

I do remember the issues had with the 3 blade. Instead of picking up new blades for 70 bones, you may want to check out the price of the lazer mag auger piece. I beleive they’re under $100. And yes the power head you have will fit a lazer mag auger

I had the 8” 3 blade Ultra auger about 2 years ago. Even with new blades, it was hard cutting. I sent an email to Strikemaster to see if they can check if my auger was bent due to poor cutting. I got a reply back to stating there was a manufacturer’s defect on some of the three bladed drill units which could cause them not to cut. Strikemaster offered an even exchange on any of the following two blade drill units: 6”, 7”, 8”, 9”, or 10”. I drove over to Big Lake and got the 10”. I also had 4 sets of used/new blades for the Ultra. I asked them if they want them. They took them from me and gave me 2 sets of blades for the new 10” auger. Great customer service and I will continue to purchase Strikemaster augers!

Same deal I had but I got a 9″ Lazer auger in trade for my 9″ Ultra. Just call or email asking nicely about it,even say “my friend” got his exchanged and see what they say.

Just wanted to give you guys an update and big for the advice. I emailed strikemaster and they will do the trade on my drill unit to the 8″ 2 blade which is ample to me.

    Thanks again!
