Do they make a baitcasting reel that would work well on a 36″ ice rod, say perhaps for pike ,walleye or even cats?

    Thanks Jeff

I have a Calcutta on an ice rod works sweet and a Curado on another one. I’d recommend either one. I’s say the Curado would do just fine especially if you need to buy a reel, but if you have a Calcutta B or the budget to get one that would work even better.

I’ve never used one on the ice, but I would shy away from the Calcutta because of the metal frame. They get real cold on the hands in the spring and fall–I would assume it’d be even worse in the winter.

I just use my Bass rod baitcasting reels, but with HotSauce lube in ’em for the colder weather. Best rig yet for jigging Lake Trout, should work for cat’s and bigger pike.

I use the Calcutta laker fishing and it works great….I don’t allow cold to dictate my gear….the calcutta has great drag system….and it doesn’t freeze up

when I go laker fishing I just take my 5500’s off my summer rods and use those. They work great and you gotta have a good drag, with a wide gap for the line feeder so the line fits through it with snow
