Hi all. I charged up my battery and hit the ice with my Vexlar yesterday. First off…battery died right away… I felt naked on the ice. Got home and changed out the battery. Fired up the vexlar again and tested it this time… It is reading over twice the depth now. Worked fine last year, but now is not. And yes…I know there is a depth multiplier for any wise guys ahead of time…

Any help will be great!!! The good thing is it still works…just reads 2 to 3 times as deep as it should.

are you trying it on the ice or just bouncing it off the floor to test it.

    one other thing to check.
on my old Hondex the switch broke and would still click but did not change the setting. it even fooled the repair guy at first.

Well, Vexilar has great customer service, I would not feel bad if I were you contacting them and asking for some help. They will either repair it or replace it. Here’s the contact information: Phone- 952-884-5291. Good Luck!

Having flasher from the old lorrance green box to some of the newer ones I have seen allot of different problem related to battery but that does not sound familiar. Most of the time it a dimmer screen, flash slows, IR stops working, or if you have an older one with a alarm it will start going off. In the past if any my flash start to act up when I first put the transducer in the water a coating of ice cover the bottom this mess up the signal. Just pull it up and warm it with hand till the ice is gone. But in the pass I replace more transducers than box problems.
    Good Luck

THe signal travels a lot slower in air than water – and will give you a deeper reading off the workbench than it will in water. I don’t recall the factor, but I want to say it is something like 2.5 times…….. at 3 feet off the cement, it should be reading 7.5 feet…or something along those lines….

Ding! Ding! we have a winning answer Though I’d get a new battery anyways, $25 is a small amount of money (atleast to me) to ensure your vex doesnt let you down and ruin another day of fishing.
