Honda Generator Question…

I have an EU1000i generator that’s acting up big time. When I go to start it, it starts, but won’t stay running. Then when I keep trying to start it, it wants to, but will start, backfire a little and die. It gets worse the more I try. Now, if I remove the plug and squirt a little gas in, I’m able to start it and it runs very well. This thing sat for many months with gas and no Stabil in it. Did I mess up the carb or something like that? I’m ready to take it in, but was wondering if it might be a simple thing. Any ideas and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like bad gas to me. Drain it, and spray the carb down with cleaner, add new plug and giver another try.

We had many generators come in the shop last week with this problem. Had a rush on them since it was deer hunting weekend.

Get a can of Seafoam and add the approriate amount [per the instructions.) If you can get it running for a while by using the choke it will clean it out eventually. I did the same thing with my ATV last year, leting it set without any fuel stabilizer in it. I could make it run if I choked it some and paid close attention to the throttle. After 1 or 2 short,(less than a mile) runs it began to improve and soon ran as good as new.
