I am in the market for a one man shack. Just wanted to heir a few different opinions on the two shacks. I am leaning towards the scout. When I am fishing I move around a lot. I usually drill any ware from 20-50 holes. I want something light and very fast to take down and set up. So any incite on either one of these shacks would be helpful.
    Thanks

I have the pro and had a scout. The scout is nice if you don’t have a heater, a lantern, electronics, or bait. I found that once I got set up I couldn’t move much. The pro gives you that extra litle space that makes a big differance.

If price is not a factor, go with the Pro. I am a formewr owner of both and if I were going to buy another 1 man, it would be another Pro.
The Pro gives you more room out front for the holes, flasher, and heater.
In a sense, it is basically the Scout turned sideways,
The Scout served me well for a few years though. If you are an average sized person, you will feel squeezed in the Scout.

The only difference between the two is the orientation of the sled in relation to the seat. One is longer, one is wider.

I thought the scout was a bit shorter too?, personally I’d go with the pro, I like mine a lot.

The seat on the pro is much nicer as well and I dont think the scout has a zipper door on the front. I bought a pro at the end of last year. I will never go any other way. there is just a lot more room for your stuff. I can put three holes inside too without the fish tangling the other lines. Go with the pro or the new frabill one man.

You will be much happier with the pro. With the shelter being positioned on the sled side ways you are able to get 2 holes side by side without a problem. I also like the fact there is a zipper for the front door. You do not have to flip the shack open to get out which helps keep you from loosing all your heat.
On nice days you can have the pro flipped shut but the front door zipped open enjoying the outdoors while keeping out of the wind.

The newer Scouts have these options as well. I picked mine up last Dec/Jan for $159.00 at GM. I would have preferred the Pro, but with the $100.00 + difference I had to buy the Scout. IF you are a bigger guy I would not even consider the Scout. I am only 5’5″ and I feel like I have very little room to play with. I have had two holes, a flasher, and a sunflower set up in it though.

    Good Luck!

Cool beans, about time they stepped up the Scout. I still would prefer the width of the pro.

How do you guys like the way the two shacks set up. From what I have seen the scout you just flip it over and the pro you have to extend the arms when you flip it over.

takes an extra 10 seconds. Well worth it for the space.

Very minimal extra set-up time for the Pro. Like I said, if the price difference had not been so great I would have gone with the Pro. You can’t complain about too much space.

I have owned both shacks and currently fish out of the Pro. I wouldn’t consider going back to the Scout. The extra space in the Pro allows an angler to fish 2 lines with a flasher and heater. I couldn’t accomplish that in my scout. They are spendy, but worth it IMO. I can easily load all of my gear into the sled and it fits in the back of my Explorer.

I owned an off brand like the scout and purchased AMwatson’s Pro last winter and I really like it. I’d go with the pro for the width out front, ease of reaching things in the sled while you’re fishing and the setup is very easy. Go Pro

I’ll throw in my 2 cents here. I had the Pro and it was a great unit, but I sold that and for the same weight and similar size and a better warmer tent, plus you get the wind break at your feet. The Otter one man Ice Cottage is a better unit. It even has more room.

I must have a high tech scout because mine has a zipper door. The only problem I find with the scout is that I catch to big of fish. Just not enough room for me and the fish. My next purchase will definately be a bigger unit.

I have the scout and I think it is perfect if your moving around a lot. If you put to much stuff in it you will feel squezed but with a flasher and a couple poles its fine for me.
