Looking into buying a new 55# trolling motor…what is the difference between the v2 and the Edge besides the length of the foot control? This is for a 16′ flat. Thanks.

The PowerDrive will have the maximizer. Off the top of my head without any resources quick by, I’m not sure the Edge does. It’s well worth the $$ to go with a motor that has the Maximizer. It really does run longer, like they say. I would never buy a MinnKota without it.

The main difference is the Edge is a cable driven motor with instant response to your foot control, whereas the V2 has a slight delay in response to your foot control. The V2 does have a longer cable so you could run the trolling motor from any where in the boat. I would also prefer a cable drive trolling motor for the way it stows and deploys into the water. I have always struggled with the new V2 and Terrova trolling motors when it comes to this. The V2 does have the maximizer installed which means you utilize the most out of your batteries while using very little power. Almost acts as “smart sensor” when it comes to the battery life at the end of the day.

They both have their advantages and disadvantages in my opinion, if you have a chance to demo either on prior to purchase, it would be a win situation for you. Good luck with the purchase.
