Making a fishfinder portable

    I have a Garmin 160C that I was thinking of making portable. I have seen that Garmin has a kit that runs off of 8 D cell batteries. How long can I expect this to power the unit?

    Does anyone have any creative ideas for doing this, especially for using the unit in colder weather and still have battery life?
