Looking for a T-8

I’m looking for a Yamaha T-8 kicker to add to my boat. I would prefer new, but would consider a used model for the right price. I’m pretty sure I can install myself, so just the motor is all I need. If you know what parts I’ll need to split the gas line, I’ll take those too, otherwise I can get them from my dealer. I can be reached here or via email at [email protected]

    Thanks

    John

    Thanks James!!

I knew finding a used one would be a slim to none chance, but thought it might be worth a post in case a touring pro has one to get rid of. My dealer has one for 2287.00, so I’ll probably end up buying it.

If you’re looking for a scenic drive to the La Crosse area, Holmen Pawn has T-8’s with a 20″ shaft for $2160. They also has the 25″ shaft for $2185. Here is their Ph # 608-526-3345.

How do you determine if you need a 20″ or a 25″ shaft and can you mount it directly to the transom or should you have it mounted to some kind of bracket? (not sure of the proper name)

The T-8’s will typically mount to any transom on aluminum boats. The glass boats are a little different, but I don’t have that problem obviously. As for transom height, each boat is different. Check with your local dealer on your particular boat or the manufacturer.

The two features that interest me most about the T-8, alternator and standard power trim. The electric start is nice also. Once you’ve fished with James running his, it’s a must on any boat wanting to pull cranks efficiently/consistantly. When I purchased my boat, I put on my blinders and listened to the sales staff at the dealer, when I knew better. Oh well, lessons learned.

You know, instead of buying that T8, if you’re looking to troll slower, you could always throw “Buckshot” out on a rope behind the boat. Besides all the kicking a screaming, you should troll really nice!

Make sure you tie him hand and foot and drag him sideways to really get the most benefit from this.

    John,

Are you going to run it as a tiller or off the steering wheel? Is there such a way you have the option of doing either?

I think I’ll be running it as a tiller, at first anyway. It will take some getting used to, but I feel like I’ll have better control over speed and manueverability(sp?).

As for using Buckshot as a drift sock, I think he would quit kicking after a few minutes. The water temps are cold enough now that hypothermia ought to set in pretty fast. Of course I’ll just have to cut the rope when I’m done. There is now way I’ll be able to pull him over the side of the boat…..

Where is young Dr. Buckshot anyway? I thought he might jump in to defend himself. Must be off chasing something in a skirt…

Well Crossin Eyes…..I suppose that would be one way you could try and keep up in the fish catching department.
Waterfowler…instead of buying a kicker motor you should toss Crossin Eyes out the front and make him swim you around.
Then again you could just buy a fully rigged Ranger….that would solve all your problems. The planets would align, the walleye gods would smile upon you and life would be great.
Now you just gotta sell the wife on the idea…or just sell the wife period.

I’m tellin’ her you said that. Heck I could use crossin on the bow and you out the back, I’m not sure I have enough motor to even pull you both.

Actually if I remember right, you asked for the Ranger + his dog. I think the later was the sticking point… lol

I was hoping you forgot about that. She’s gonna kill me if she ever discovers this site. I’d still trade if the dog was included of course……

James, have you seen “The Dog”? Little bugger likes beer but more to the point I was telling waterfowler to shave it and tie some hair jigs either that or strap some trebles to it and let it swim around the weedbeds on Tonka…that fuzzy little thing would probably attract every musky in the lake.

Waterfowler, if you do find a good deal on a new motor, please post it here. I may also be in the market for a kicker come spring.

I found a place that sells the T8’s for $1400.00 They are reburbished motors direct from Yamaha. The warrantly is only 30 days, so it’s a toss up. I’ll let you know when they get more in.

That is Jasper, the super muskie bait. He’s a pomeranian. Just an ankle biter that the wife thought she needed. It’s fun to take him and buckshot fishing, you should see them fight over the beer. I’m not sure how I’m gonna explain the sudden hair cut before the seminar on the 16th……

I’ve threatened worse on the little son of gun. He’s about 3 months old right now and testing my patience daily. And I thought I wanted to have kids……

‘Fowler………….I have had both kids and dogs………..both have varying degrees of appeal, depending on the individual. But with a dog……….you’re somewhat stuck with the nature of the animal. With kids, there’s a natural make up too but they have the ability to grow and learn by way of a parent’s example and (sometimes firm) guidance.

All you need to picture is this………….after years of blood, sweat, and tears…………..calm waters and a cool soft air amidst another scenic sunset…………day almost done and another Kodak moment coming to a close………….when out of nowhere, that child………….whether they’re less than 10 or over 40……….looks up at you with the warmest eyes you’ve ever seen and say, “……..I sure got lucky when I got you for a dad.” And then picture similar moments strewn throughout your years together, because that’s what you’d shown them to do.

Buddy………..kids rock! Don’t let a pooch confuse you.

Sorry for the tangent guys…………..it’s just a soft spot!
