Ok….I am having a real hard time finding a used 50 horse for my boat. It is rated for a 50 horse. What are the consequenses if I were to put a 60 horse on it?
    Thanks

You’d be taking a chance of getting pinched for going over the hp rating. Exactly what are you looking for as far as maker, model, and year are concerned?

I currently have a 16 ft lund pro angler.
I have a 50horse merc (Classic 50) on it that I hate. No t@t and has problems. It came with the boat.
it is a tiller model. I am fairly open to brand. But would like to stay with a motor that is 1996 (the year or my boat) or newer.
Keep finding 40s and 60s But would like to max out hp to keep the performance.

I had a boat once that was overmaxed and the “inspectors” never even looked.
That doen’t make it right or legal though.

I’m a long ways from you but I’ll look around and let you know if I happen onto anything. Does your boat take a long or short shaft?

Hey Chappy, give Smitty’s Marine in Lake City a call and ask for Kenny. 651-345-3990 He has a bunch of motors in the showroom next to the main sales area building. Tell him Nate and I sent you. If you find one that is for remote control they can always put a handle on it [convert it to a tiller]. Years ago I had a 40hp tiller converted to a console steering version when they added the console to my gray Lund Rebel that I use to have. Thanks, Bill

Chappy, if you don’t find what you are looking for at Smitty’s, you might put a wanted post in the swap forum too… Maybe someone’s willing to unload one.

One other thought, those 40 horse troll really well. A bonus if you can’t find a 50 you want.

You might want to try Shakopee Marine I do not have their number right now, they are motor only dealer. They are down the road from the Chevy dealer. Talk to John Dobson, they also have great service. I have delt with him on some of my personal motors and they run great.
