A little rumor to get the blood flowing for all the hard water anglers. Lowrance is supposed to release a new color ice fishing sonar – the X67C Ice Machine. I don’t know much yet but I will keep you all posted on any new developments. In the meanwhile, enjoy the open water!

    X67C sonar unit (320 x 250 pixel color display)

    Here’s the regular Lowrance X67C.

Here’s a pic of the Ice Machine (the only one I can find so far)…

Ahh, I should’ve known Ryan… Cabelas gets eveything first.

    Here it is:

    Lowrance X67c Ice Machine
A dazzling, 3.5″ diagonal 256-color active matrix TFT display in the X67c Ice Machine optimizes cold-climate performance while delivering superior detail and target separation with incredible 320 x 240 pixel resolution. With 800 watts peak-to-peak power, it has depth capability to 600 feet. The display unit has a full-screen color LCD flasher display mode for real-time depth readings and target returns as well as full and split-screen scrolling display with fish symbols or standard sonar returns. COLORLINE™ separates fish and structure from the bottom and indicates bottom composition and hardness. The 2X and 4X sonar chart zoom with vertical zoom pan control of the water column; multiple chart/flasher color display choices including Grayscale and Nightview. It also has fish alarm, high-speed screen updates, a built-in back-up memory and adjustable screen contrast and backlighting levels to adjust to light conditions. The completely waterproof display has a battery status readout to let you know when it’s time to recharge. It has a 200 kHz bullet transducer that delivers up to 60° of coverage when set on the highest sensitivity level. A molded tray with battery well and tie-downs holds a swing-out transducer bracket with a cable locknut for easier depth adjustment in the ice hole without the use of floats.
Cabela’s X67c Soft Pack includes a 20° 200 kHz ice transducer with float, 12-volt 7-amp battery with charger, ice shuttle with battery and transducer storage and soft pack protective case and transducer float.
A Transom-Mount Skimmer Transducer and Trolling Motor Puck Transducer also are available.

Hey Wade, Which one of the three popular brands [vexilar 18, marcum, or lowrance] do you feel is best? And Why? Also can you tell me the weight of each unit with battery, case, etc.? Thanks, Bill

Bill, great question but I don’t consider myself the best guy to answer that one. I used to do some ice fishing as a kid and then fell out of it. I am glad to say I will be doing some ice fishing again this winter thanks to Ryan Hale. He’s got all the equiptment and has been kind enough to invite me to tag along a few times this year. I know Ryan has a Vex and really likes it. I hear all kinds of good feedback about the vex 18. We’re working on picking up the Vex line for this winter. I’m not too familiar with Marcum, and Lowrance is new to the hard water game with this x67c Ice Machine so we’ll have to see how it performs. My guess is that since it’s Lowrance, it’s gonna be good.

I did get a note back from one of our distributors this morning and we will be carrying the x67c Ice Machine. We’re not yet sure on the pricing but I see Cabela’s price is $399.99 so I’m guessing we’ll be at that or most likely less.

As for weights, the vex 18 is listed at 1.1 lbs. I couldn’t find weights listed for the others but I would assume they are similar. Battery weights I would guess vary a bit from battery to battery. Anyone have any ideas.

I’ll bet there are some guys on here who have a better answer for you than I do Bill. Sorry I don’t have more info. Good luck, Wade

Bill,I’ve only used the Fl-8 and Fl-18.Both of these are great units. The Fl-18 has a bottom lock feature and will zoom in on the bottom 6′ of water.

I have a 12 volt battery for my Vex that is around 5#’s on the bathroom scale.

So your looking at 6-7#’s for unit, battery, and carry case.Weight is not a issue with any of these units.

I have never heard a bad thing about any Vexilar, everyone likes their units.

Don’t know that much about Marcom.

I’m sure the new ice machine by Lowrance will be a good unit.

You will not believe how much a flasher unit helps putting more fish on the ice.

    Best of luck Bill.

Thank you Ryan! I was hoping you’d help on this one. Guys, if you have ice fishing questions be sure to see the ice fishing forum as well… want to make sure you all are aware of this fairly new forum. I know Ryan and some other very knowledgeable ice anglers view that forum regularly and they are very willing to help with any questions. Ask away!

Bill, I would add that what I have heard about the Marcum was positive as well. Seems the bottom line is ice fishermen have a few good options and probably would be okay with any of the units mentioned. Good luck Bill!

Thanks guys. Wade, do you carry the FL18 Genz Unit with blue box, battery, etc.? If so How much do you charge for it? I have a Eagle flasher and a newer Hummingbird flasher but might want to upgrade. Thanks, Bill

    Wade
