Any thoughts on Garmin color graphs? I have their GPS 162 and like it. Might upgrade to a color unit when my Pinpoint dies.

    Thanks KLH

The 162 is a great unit. I wish Garmin made it with the color option. A color unit gives you better daylight viewing and more detailed viewing.

KLH, are you thinking about a GPS/Fishfinder combo unit? GPS only? Fishfinder only?

The 182 is GPS only. When you say graph, I’m thinking sonar/fishfinder. Just want to be sure were talking about the same thing. If you plan to keep your 162 and need a fishfinder to go with it, the only color fishfinder Garmin has available at this time is the 320C Color Fishfinder.

Garmin does carry a color combo unit, the Garmin 188C Combo. But, of course, you won’t need the combo if you keep your Garmin 162.

The Garmin 320C has the dual frequency transducer and temp. M.A.P. price is $799.99 but you’ll find it from $750 to $850.

Good luck. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Here’s a pic.

That is the one I was looking at! What do you think of the unit? I have heard color is the ticket.

The Garmin 320 Color seems to be a fine unit, especially in that price range, with some color sonar units priced around a grand. You should get a good view with color, 234 x 320 pixel resolution on the 5″ screen. It comes with temp and the dual frequency transducer (at least the model we sell does), and it has the internal memory back up so it saves your settings when you power off. Of the feedback I have heard, the target separation is very good, making it easier to tell a fish from a weed, rock, or stick.

Of course, this is second hand information, and I’d love to hear if anyone else here runs the unit (pros – cons).

One thing I can say for certain is Garmin is a darn fine company and they make great products. My experience with their customer service has been great.

Let me know if I can be of any help.

    Thanks,

    Wade

Yes Garmin has great customer service that is why I am looking at Garmin, I cracked the plug on my 162 sent it in and got a new? unit back in a week no questions asked. Do you know how the GPS repeater works in the 320C? I have a 162 now, and this intersts me. Also do you know if MinnKota makes an adapter for the Pinpoint graphs to trolling motor? One more thing I do not need the dual frequency is that the only way you sell it?

    Thanks KLH

The Garmin 320C can be purchased as a single unit, without transducer, and then you can select the transducer you want from Garmin 320 Accessories page here. Garmin transducer #010-10118-00 has temp. Our prices will be equal or most likely less than what you see on the Garmin site.

Regarding the GPS interface, what I know is you can send information from the 320c to a compatible GPS. What it allows you to do is mark an underwater waypoint basically. So if you wanted to mark a rock pile or a hump for example, you can mark it on the 320 and send that info to your GPS unit to store the waypoint. You can read all about it in the Garmin 320C manual here. There is a nice graphic on page 13.

Regarding Pinpoint transducers for trolling motors, take a look at Pinpoint Puck Transducers here. I did not see Pinpoint listed on Minn Kota’s sonar list here.

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions about the 320C, let me know. I will be away form later today until Tuesday night. I’m going to try to check messages while I’m gone but may not get the chance until Tuesday.

    Thanks,

    Wade

Here’s a little different screen sample of the 320c.

    Jolly Ann is $50 cheaper than any other retailer I could find on-line and much less than most. I personally have experienced his level of service;

Willingness to answer any and all questions, not matter how trivial.

Awesome pricing. I saved over a $100 on the Garmin 162 I recently ordered.

Free Shipping on anything to anywhere.

Order confirmation with UPS tracking info.

72 hour delivery to my home.

A personal follow-up to see that everything arrived as expected and that I was happy with my purchase.

    And I was happy. VERY!

Thanks Wade. Before you guys buy any electronics, check this guy out. You’ll be very happy with the service, pricing and the extra level of customer appreciation. It’s a lot easier to give someone my hard earned money when I get the feeling that he appreciates my business. Way too many outfits treat a guy like an inconvenience these days.

Thank you James, for the kind words. Tamara and I do the best we can to try to treat customers how we’d like to be treated. Very glad to hear the Garmin 162 is working well for you. Thanks again, Wade
