Most people dont know it, but if your GPS has a PC connector, you can probably upgrade the internal ROM.

I just bought a GPS and checked the Garmin webiste, there were 3 updates to the BIOS that fixed probably over a hundred issues…

What this does is re-writes your GPS operating system to update to the newest that model has to offer…

Anyway, I have just never seen anyone talk about this so thought I would throw it out… Its a simple procedure (but can ruin your GPS if you do it wrong) but if anyone needs help give me a message !!!

Walleye GFA, great point. You can also generally update any software products you have for a Garmin GPS. Sometimes there is a small fee for software upgrades but watch for rebate offers each year.

The Garmin Tech Support guys are actually quite helpful (most of them anyway). You may have to wait on hold for a while if you call, but you can email questions too.

Just to add to the list of possibilities here. I have a Lowrance LCX 15 CI with GPS and the Mapcreate 6.2 software. I bought the unit a year ago. I have downloaded from the Lowarance web site, at no charge, 2 or 3 upgrades to my LCX 15. The first one was an update of Mapcreate 6 to ver.6.2 which made it easier to use. The second actually upgraded my units software in the boat to provide for a screen that gives me a color flasher on 2/3 of the screen while providing 1/3 of the display for a normal LCD depth display. I also have a new steering screen to utilize for tracking to a waypoint. With this unit the upgrades are downloaded to a MMC chip and when I put the chip in the boat mounted unit and turn it on, the updates were completed automajically. what a deal!

I am also saying check these web sites for improvements guys! You may be pleasantly surprised!
