Just bought a 2000 1650 Lund Angler with a 50hp Merc 4 stroke tiller. It was run three times since March of 07’. Boat seems to be in immaculate condition. But I took her out on the river for a good run and she started running rough and bogging down. After a bit it would kick back in and run smooth. I figured the gas needs burned out and replaced. The big problem was when I started trolling at idle for about five minutes the overheat alarm kicked on. I shut her down and waited a bit, tried again and same thing. I let her cool off started it and she was “pissing” fine and the oil is full so I let her rip WOT back to the launch a few miles away and she did not alarm.
Any ideas? I am very new to outboards especially 4 stroke. I am guessing the moron I bought it from thought it would be fun to start it out of the water? That or I am hoping it’s due to the fact that she sat awhile??? Guess I should have taken her out before I handed over the check.
Thanks in advance
Ryan
