    Rebate Update:

Humminbird is currently offering rebates on their Matrix Series Fishfinders anf Fishfinder/GPS Combo units. Rebate offer ends December 31, 2003.

The current rebates are $30 to $50. You can read more about it on the Humminbird Website – Matrix Promotions.

The Matrix 55 and 65 are Navionics compatible.

You can view the entire Matrix line on the Humminbird Website.

If anyone has any questions, drop me a note.

    Thanks,

    Wade,
Do you know if the Maxtrix 55 & 65 are compatible with Hotspots? Everything I’ve seen on them says that they work with Hotspots GOLD. Problem is, I don’t see anything on Navionics website about that version of Hotspots.
    Hope this makes sense….

    Thanks in Advance.

You are correct all around. The Matrix 55 & 65 are compatible with Hotspots Gold (not Classic) AND the Hotspots Gold lakes are not listed on the Navionics website at this time. I recently spoke with Navionics about this issue and they tell me that the list will be on their website in a few weeks or so. It is important to note because there are some differences in the lakes available on the Classic versus the Gold.

The solution: I am going to have Navionics fax the list to me for area #10 (Iowa/Minnesota). Let me know if you need a different area and I will have that faxed as well. I will post the list here on Monday if I have it by then.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks,

    Wade

Great! That’s what I was hoping to hear. I’m really liking the looks of the Maxtrix 55 or 65. Haven’t seen the 65’s Unimap in detail to know if it’s worth the extra money or not, but overall even without that I think the Matrix now is my pick for a new gps/sonar.

Thanks for the help Wade. I’ll be looking for the list of Area 10 (That’s the only one I need). Appreciate your help

Steve, You’re welcome. And in my opinion I would save a little money and get the 55 instead of the 65. Since you are planning to use the Navionics chart the 55 will meet your needs. The mapping on the 65 is not that detailed.

I’ll have that Gold #10 information for you next week.

I looked pretty hard at the Matrix units this spring when I was in the market for a new ff. I liked a lot of the features, but in the end I bought an Eagle 320 with a separate handheld GPS. The main thing that convinced me otherwise was the extra screen resolution on the Eagle 320, and the ability to take the GPS ice fishing.

If I had a big enough boat to warrant two depthfinders, I could easily see running the matrix on the dash and putting a unit with better detail in the bow, but on a 15′ boat that would just be electronics overload.

That’s really what I’m looking for is a good all-around gps/ff combo for the dash. I was pretty much set on the Eagle/Lowrance 320 units with gps, but started leaning towards the Matrix after I researched it some more. Guess I probably don’t need to get in a big hurry this time of year anyway…..I’ll have all winter to research these.

Thanks for all your help guys!

Plenty of time to research, but if you choose the Matrix 55/65 get it before December 31 to get the $50 rebate.

The Eagle Combo units are also Navionics compatible. They cost more but you do get a higher resolution (320×320 versus 240×240).

I think once you added the Navionics Mapping, a guy would be happy with either choice.

I have one page on the website that may be helpful in comparing the Eagle, Lowrance, and Humminbird Fishfinder/GPS Combo units. Here’s the link.

Here’s a link to our Navionics page.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

Steve, (and anyone else looking for the Navionics info)

Here’s the link to the Navionics HotMap #10 GOLD that would be used on the Matrix 55 or 65: Link to Lake List #10 GOLD

If anyone has any questions, please post them here or email me.

    Thanks,

    Wade
