What rod do you like for 3-way fishing, what lenght and why?
Do you use the same rod for pulling cranks and live bait with 3-ways or do you use a differnt one for each presentation?

7’6″ Tidemasters and 10’6″ Wildrivers have been very popular for that very reason….flexability of presentations.James and Dustin,Tuck,& many others turned me on to that set-up quite a few years ago. Although not the cheapest per rod ….they will save you from buying xtra reels and rods for indvidual set-ups,and of course room in the boat. The best part is….they are proven and just outstanding rods!

I hear those Loomis crank rods have been known to bring a fish or two in the boat 3-way rigging too!

You guys are referencing the 7’6 inch Tidemaster Medium moderate action, correct? They make it in a 7 footer also for those who cannot fit the greater length in the rod-locker… not sure that the action is exactly the same but I believe it’s pretty similar… Chuckles

I use the St Croix Wild River’s for my outside rods and my Tidemasters for the inside rods while 3-waying. The length of the Wild River’s allows me to cover more water.

I mostly use 7ft St. Croix Premier rods for 3-ways. I like the med action rods and in shallower water I will use a med light rod for my back rod. I do have the Wild River rods in 8’6” and 10’6” in med action also but the Premiers are my go to rods. Concerning the tidemasters I have never used them but I have heard alot of great about them.

    Thanks, Bill

ps. Steve, if you want to take a look at the Premiers and/or Wild River rods give me a call. You have my number.

Bass Pro Shops Crankin sticks in 7’6″ telescoping – two different actions are available in both medium for light weight and med heavy for heavier weight. These rods have nice light tips and give and then a strong backbone. I pulled an 11#+ in off a 3 way/crank in the fall of 2000 so they can handle a big fish. They also go on sale for sub $30 from time to time – good value for the $$.

    Good fishing!
