I am sure like anything it has its time and place, but I read about guys using Jig’n spoons in lakes vertically and doing quite well, anybody use blade baits in a similar application?

Are you asking if people use them vertical in lakes?

If you are referring to ice fishing, pretty much everything is vertical.Yes, people use them in that fashion.

Open water allows for a little more creativity in the application of any bait/lure, but again the answer is yes.

I like vertical presentations for the blades, but a lot of people are casting/retrieving them too. You need a sensitive line [preferrably a braid] to do the casting and it won’t work in weeds/wood very well. Over-working a blade on a retrieve can muff your chances at a hit and I haven’t gotten to that level yet personally.

I do fish those jigging spoons [like Scenic’s Go Devil, CastMasters, Lindy’s Frostee Spoon and Custom”s Jigging Demon] during the summer months when craoppies are relating to deep structure like sunken trees or logs. When its hot out, I cast those critters paralell to the structure and use a winter finesse plastic on one of the treble’s hooks. Very effective when fished as such.

The answer is yes. I have used them in lakes a fair amount of times both casting and vertical jigging. Both presentations work with vertical being the better of the two.

Now don’t laugh but last year I gave them a shot trolling zips behind boards with great success. Gewtting the right depths is tricky since they are not in the guide but they really do work! Give them a try next time
