I have a 1850 sportfish that is wired for a 12volt trolling motor, I have a 24 volt minkota 65lb thrust, does anybody know , could i convert my boat to 24volts by just wiring 2 deep cycles in series, and use the same wiring to the trolling motor up front. I didn’t know if the current wiring could handle the 24 volts. Thanks

I would guess the first step I’d to look at your wiring, I’d expect it to have a gauge rating on it somewhere. Post up what you find

Yes, you can use the existing wiring. A 24V motor draws less amps than a 12v. Just make sure your jumper wire for the batteries is 8 gauge and also put a 50 amp breaker on the motor hot lead.

Wire length over 10 feet go with 6 gauge 4 less line loss.

    Can get by with 8

One more thing, I would go with 50 Amp automatic reset Breaker.

    Just my 2 cents

I know a 40amp breaker was too small for my 72lb minkota 24v had too use a 50 amp breaker and 6 ga wire Stan
