Are you using the Merc DFI oil? If I remember right, that is all they make now, but I might be wrong?

You need to use a DFI oil, but not necessarily pure synthetic. I’m not sure if Merc. makes anything but 100% synthetic anymore? What year Opti. are you running?

I am running a 03 optimax, is it better to use synthetic, or does it really matter?

Don’t be a cheapskate. Oil is the life blood of your engine. Use the full synthetic Merc oil. If your to
concerned about the cost of injection oil apparently
    you can’t afford the motor.

I have a 225 Opti and have run the Optimax/DFI oil since I got it. My mechanic tells me Merc now recommends running Premium Plus.

I have had 2 Opitmax’s now and have never run anything but the Mercury Optimax/DFI oil.

I would kep running this if I were you. What is the price difference $5-10 a gallon and how many gallons do you go through in a summer 2-3??? An extra $30 / year is not worth risking to me.

Adding a little Merc QuickKleen each time you fill up will give you better performance and less maintenance/plug issues as well.

Quicksilver is made by Mercury and is the same oil. If you want to pay more for the Mercury stickers go for it.

Just picked up some Quicksilver DFI oil at Gander Mountain for my OPTI. Gotta love those $ 10.00 off coupons…
