I will be replacing my bow mounted X100C due to a house fire(I keep my sonars in the basement during winter). I will be a purchasing combo unit, either the 522 IGPS or the 520c. This unit will be mounted on my Crestliner 1850 Fish Hawk on the deck at the bow. My question is will the 522 IGPS be able receive an accurate signal at that location?? I would prefer to not have to mess with the external antenna on the 520C if I don’t have to. Does anyone have experience with the 522 IGPS located at the bow? The unit will be working with a Terrova 80lb with universal sonar.

Thanks for any feedback that you can give me!!

I have 2 522 IGPS units and plan on getting a third now…be sure to mount it up front so it is able to reciever a signal i mived mine up top next to my trolling motor and it works greatt…had it tucked into the corner on the floor but it could not keep a satelite signal though….give them 2 thumbs up and qill not think twice about buying another unit the same

    Erick,

That is my main concern. I like having the unit mounted to a ram mount on the floor of the boat in front of the trolling motor pedal. I think that it is better protected there when trailering. If the unit can’t receive a good signal there I will probably go with the 520C with external antenna.

    Thanks for the input.

I had to trade my 522c in for the 520c cause I could not get good reception consistently. I now love the 520c and will buy and external antenna next time I buy a graph.

If you’re concerned about the signal at all, go with the 520C.

As long as nothing like a windsheid are in the way but I would still go with a 520 instead of the 22

I have my 522 under the windshield on my Tyee, and run it thru an extrernal antenna, so that’s another option for ya, too….

I have run a 522 under a windshield since last fall with no problems.

I just got a 522i and was surprised to lock three SAT from inside my garage with the door closed. I have two awning type windows on the back that the signal must have come through. Based on that I’m not too worried about mine.
